Pleasant, Martin Co., Indiana, and died October 23, 1913 in Celina, Collin Co., TX and is buried in the Pilot Point Cemetery, Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas. In 1860, he was living in Red River Co. Texas. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in Red River County, Texas in 1861 and received a Confederate Pension: 1906, App. #12332, Denton Co.Occupation: 1860, Saddler. His Obituary from internet, cited as Daily Courier Gazette, Mckinney, Texas, Sat., Oct. 25, 1913 p.1. Both Joseph R. Bryant and his wife received pensions as a result of his Civil War confederate service: On April 11, 1906, J. R. Bryant, age 76, a resident of Denton Co., Texas, applied for a Confederate Pension, on basis that he was enfeebled from old age and not able to engage in an occupation. He served 3 1/2 years in the war in Co. D, A.M. Alexander's Regiment. He enlisted about Nov. 1861 and served till close of war 1865. Joseph and his brother, Claiborne are probably both buried at Pilot Point, TX. though only Joseph's grave is marked. Alexander Hart Robertson Bryant, was the brother of Claiborne Robertson Bryant (my ancestor) and Joseph Roberts Byant, both of whom served in the Civil War. Claiborne also served in the Mexican American and Civil War. A story about Joseph Roberts Bryant, by Marijo Young, told by her Uncle Herbert Bryant: "When Uncle Willie got news his father was dying, he and Uncle Allan Bryant, brother to Jerome Bryan who married Bulah Bryant, went to take the train from Tenaha and Herbert and Clyde rode with them to bring back the horses. While they were on their way, it came a blizzard, and Herbert didn't have on any shoes. Hodges, that ran a cafe in Tenaha loaned him a pair of his daughter's shoes. He was pretty embarrassed, but it was so cold he was glad to take them. When Willie got to Joseph R's bedside, Joseph R. sat up in bed and said 'I've just been waiting for you.' He talked awhile to Uncle Willie and then lay down and went to sleep and was never conscious again, and he died that night." JOSEPH ROBERTS BRYANT married (1) MARION FLORIDA PICKETT August 06, 1851 in Red River Co., Texas, daughter of WILLIS PICKETT and LUCY. She was born Abt. 1836 in Georgia, and died Bef. 1853. Willis Pickett was the pastor of the oldest Baptist Church, Concord Baptist Church at Clarksville, Red River County, Texas, which was founded by Willis Pickett and wife and Solomon George Bryant and wife, the parents of Joseph Roberts Bryant, and three other persons. Child of JOSEPH BRYANT and MARION PICKETT is: i. LUCY BRYANT, b. Abt. 1851. He married (2) MARY ANN BUTLER August 20, 1853 in Red River Co., TX., daughter of NATHANIEL G. BUTLER. She was born 1835, and died 1873. Children of JOSEPH BRYANT and MARY BUTLER are: ii. MARY ELIZABETH BRYANT, b. November 22, 1854, Red River Co., TX.; d. May 14, 1889, Kemp, Kaufman Co., TX; m. NATHAN ALLEN, May 28, 1874; b. February 14, 1850, Russell Co., Alabama; d. 1896, Kemp, TX. They are buried at Kemp, Kaufman Co., Texas. iii. JAMES THOMAS BRYANT, b. September 17, 1856; d. JOSEPH ROBERTS BRYANT married (3) (MRS.) NANCY ANN HARVEY July 14, 1881 in Wood Co., TX. She was born July 1841 in South Carolina, and died August 27, 1934 in Dallas, TX.
