McDonald, perhaps better known to many as "Red Mack" was short and seriously wounded at about 10:30 o'clock Saturday night in the southeastern part of the city. A shotgun was used, the charge taking effect in McDonald's arms, one of which was so badly mangled by the wounds that it was amputated close to the shoulder early Sunday morning. Immediately after the shooting, C. C. (Clem) Sullivan telephoned for the officers to come after him. He was arrested and placed in jail with a charge of assault to murder against him, but was released Monday morning on $1000 bond. The shooting occurred at Sullivan's home in the southeast part of the city. McDonald was standing on the front porch when the shot was fired. He walked twelve or fifteen steps and fell. He lay just as he fell until the arrival of officers when he was picked up and carried home. According to statements made to the officers the difficulty came up over the alleged killing of McDonald's dog. He claimed, it is said, that Sullivan had killed it. Sullivan says that McDonald came to his home and called him out to give him a drink of whiskey, that he would not drink the whiskey, but poured it on the ground. McDonald charged him with killing his dog and after some words Sullivan says he threw a stool at him. Sullivan says he then went into the house and got a shotgun and upon McDonald's trying to get in the door he shot him." May 20, 1910, "Denton Record and Chronicle": "Mr. A. R. McDonald moved back from Denton and will live for a while in the Friendship community." 1910 CENSUS, Denton County, Texas, from Gerald Riney Annie Tisdell Single 45 Farmer TX Canada Canada Jessie dau 8 TX TX TX Hi Tisdell 43 Farmer TX Canada Canada Nancy wife 40 TX LA AL Mabell dau 15 TX TX TX Andrew R.
