G. Grimmitt on a charge of feloniously assaulting Miss Marietta Batchelor closed here yesterday. The trial created considerable excitement. Grimmitt was arrested on a charge of attempting to outrage Miss Batchelor, but on the examination of testimony before going into trial it was ascertained that the crime, as represented by the State's witnesses, was incomplete. A new complaint was filed against him, and after hearing all the testimony Judge Withers remanded him to jail to await the action of the Guard Jury in the case. Grimmitt's own daughter, 14 years old, gave damaging testimony against her father, and this testimony sealed the fate of Grimmitt. Last night he was taken from the jail by a few masked men and to-day he could nowhere be found.
