Born in Denton, Texas, on Feb. 18, 1907, to William and Zephy (Phillips) Fowler, she had been a Yolo County resident for the past 55 years. She moved to Esparto in 1947, first working behind the famous Esparto Drug Store soda fountain where she began her love affair with the preparation and service of food. She went from the drug store to the old Yolo General Hospital and then to Woodland Memorial Hospital, and finally settled in for many years with the Davis Unified School District. She had worked more than 30 years as a cook before retiring to her love of her family, her children and their children, camping, fishing, and most of all, continuing to cook and prepare feasts for the enjoyment of her large and extended family. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Woodland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orion Denson; her brother, Hubert Fowler of Dallas; and her daughter, Margaret L. Firth of Davis. She is survived by her son, Joe Denson and his wife Hazel of Davis; daughter, Kay Hernandez and her husband Jesse; and son-in-law Bill Firth, all of Davis. She is also survived by five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. No visitation is scheduled prior to graveside services, which will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Road. The family requests that gifts in her memory be directed to the the donor's charity of choice. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
