Bardford Willis tford53@gmail.com September 16, 2010, 9:22 pm The Texas Christian Advocate. December 20, 1884, p. 7 Mr. John P. Willis Willis. – John P. Willis, son of Dr. T. L. Willis and wife, was born in Pike county, Ala., Nov. 4, 1864, and died Nov. 2, 1884. His death was sudden and unexpected. He was thrown from a horse and instantly killed. “In the midst of life we are in the midst of death.” Johnnie was a good boy, devoted to his parents, and an affectionate brother. He professed religion and joined the M. E. Church, South, at Denton, Texas, about eight years ago. He was consistent in his Christian walk and conversation. He was regular in his attendance at church. At the time of his death he was secretary of the Sunday-school. He was loved by all who knew him. He was buried in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Denton, Texas, where he peacefully awaits the coming of the resurrection morn. May God bless his grief-stricken parents, his brother, sister, and relations, and bring them at last to meet where sorrow is not known. –D.J.
