All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************* James Warren Woodward's obituary Transcribed 5 January 2004 By Michele Holland Mills mhmills@email.com James Warren Woodward was born to Christopher Woodward (1807-1880) and Letticia Wilson (1820-1906), in Platte County, Missouri. He grew up in Boone County, Kentucky. James served in the Civil War. He married Henrietta Dianah Glacken (1848-1876) April 18, 1865, in Boone County, Kentucky. Their two oldest children, Elbert Lee and Andrew Christopher, were born in Kenton County, Kentucky in 1865 and 1867. Their daughter Minnie was born in Milam, Macon County, Illinois in 1869, and they were listed on the 1870 census. Minnie died before 1880. The family was back in Kenton County, Kentucky in 1880. Henrietta died in 1876. The youngest child, William, was raised by Henrietta's sister, Amanda Glacken Carpenter, and her husband John. In 1881 James and his two oldest sons, Elbert and Andrew, moved to Milam County, Texas. James moved to Krum, Denton County, Texas in 1889. His son Elbert stayed in Milam County, and Andrew moved to Hamilton County. James married a second time, to Eliza Copeland. They had two children, Kate and Clifford. When he was 53, James married Emma Rhine Mounts, widow of Joseph Harrison Mounts. They were married in Denton County, Texas, on November 22, 1896. James was a member of the Baptist Church in Krum. He fell in September or early October 1927 and broke his hip. He died October 9, 1927, and is buried in Jackson Cemetery, Krum, Denton County, Texas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- "J. W. Woodward Died Sunday J. W. Woodward, age 84, died at his home Sunday morning at one o'clock from injuries sustained when he fell in his room two weeks prior to his death. Funeral services were held at the Woodward residence at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. C. Nancy, assisted by Rev. N. B. Baker. Interment was made in the Jackson Cemetery. Pallbearers were J. O. McClister Sr., C. R. Fowler, T. M. Lindley, R. L. Basking, W. W. McClister and A. F. Lindley. Woodward is survived by his wife who before their marriage here in 1896 was Mrs. Emma Mounts, five children, Mrs. H. B. Bartee of Krum, E. L. Woodward of Santa Anna, A. C. Woodward of Lorenzo, W. W. Woodward of Erlanger, Ky., and J. C. Woodward of San Antonio, 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, J. K. Woodward of Madill, Okla., C. P. Woodward of Pampa, Miss Laura Woodward of Covington, Ky., and Miss Emma Woodward of Toledo, Ohio. All of his children were here at his bedside with the exception of one won, W. W. Woodward of Erlanger, Ky. Woodward was born in Platte County, MO, Feb. 18, 1843. He attended school in Boone County, Ky, and served during the Civil War in Braggs division of the Confederate Army, receiving his discharge at the end of the war. In 1881 he came to Texas from Kentucky and moved to Denton County in 1898. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Out-of-town relatives and friends who [were] here were C. P.
