Nelson died last Saturday his family was visited by their second affliction in two weeks, his daughter-in-law, Mrs. N.J. Nelson having died on 29 February. He was one of the pioneer citizens, a sincere Christian and a devoted member of the Lutheran church. Mr. Nelson was born near Stockholm, Sweden in 1841, coming of one of the most prominent families of that country, his brother being a member of the parliament of Sweden and the members of the family being prominent in a political way. He moved to America about 40 years ago when his two eldest children were in their infancy, coming first to Illinois and removing to their home in the Brice Community in 1890, where he engage in stock farming. He was a large stockholder in the Donley County State Bank. Surviving: aged wife and six children. N.J. Nelson, Mesdames John Grady, L.R. Dean, M.E. Bell, C.E. Murphy, and Harry Weatherly, were at his bedside at the time of his death. Clarendon lost one of its best citizens Tuesday when John H. Rathjen died. Mr. Rathjen had been sick a long time. He was born August 13, 1859. He came to Clarendon six years ago and had been identified with business interests. He leaves a wife and nephew in Clarendon and other relatives in Germany. Funeral conducted from the Presbyterian church by Rev. Deffner, pastor of the German Lutheran church at Wichita Falls, deceased being a member of that faith. Interment in Citizens cemetery. All the business houses of Clarendon will be closed for the funeral. Born –M/M H.M. Reed, on the C.W. Bennett farm, girl, 19th inst. M/M L.R. Dean called here by the death of their father, N.T. Nelson returned home to Childress. F. Tietjen of Cleveland, OH is here for the funeral of John H. Rathjen. He is a brother to Mrs. Rathjen. D.C. Smith received the sad news of his brother, Nat Sullivan, at Whitesboro Saturday of his death and left immediately. He fell over dead and was only 35 years of age. Charles Goodnight has pneumonia.
