Adamson of near Hedley. Miss Adamson was visiting in Altus, Oklahoma, at the time visiting. We clip the following account from the Altus Daily Times: "Miss Ludie Adamson, aged 17 years and 10 months, the elder of two sisters who have from time to time been employed by the Pioneer Telephone Co. here, committed suicide Tuesday about 5 p.m. at the residence of J.W. Cook, 612 Main Street, by drinking carbolic acid... Miss Ludie was a very popular young lady with all who knew her, and her sudden action was a great shock, to all of her friends, who assign no motive for her determination to die... Miss Lula Cook, who lives just across the street from Miss O.R. Culwell, sister of Miss Ludie, went home from the telephone exchange where she is employed as operator, and her younger sister, Lester, and Miss Adamson sitting in the parlor, the latter informing Miss Cook she was going to stay all night with them. Miss Lula and her sister then went to the kitchen to prepare supper, and had been out of the room only a few seconds when Miss Lester heard Miss Ludie call her. Going to the room Miss Lester found the girl writhing in agony on the bed. Dr. Abernethy was summoned but was unable to give her relief and she died in a very few minutes. When asked why she had taken the poison the girl replied because she wanted to die. Ludie had been a close friend of the Cook girls ever since she had been in Altus, and it is a sever blow to these young ladies who have lost a chum who was very dear to them. Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Adamson parents of Jessie and Ludie, Bob Adamson their brother, and his wife. Wesley Adamson and two nephews arrived this morning from Hedley, Texas, to take charge of the body. The funeral will be held at the Culwell residence, 611 North Main Street, at 8:30 tonight, and the body will be shipped to Hedley, Texas, Thursday morning at 9 o'clock, over the Frisco." The family arrived yesterday evening on the 7:10 train with the remains, and were met at the train by a large crowd of friends. Internment will be made in the Rowe Cemetery this afternoon.
