December 18, 1998 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- James Louis (Shorty) Carey, 79, of Odessa went to be with God Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born April 27, 1919, in Cooper. He married Wanda Sharp in Sweetwater in 1968. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Troy Stevenson officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Shorty was a longtime resident of Odessa. He was a veteran of World War II serving in New Guinea. He retired from Phillips Petroleum in 1980. He was a member of Faith Temple Church. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Carey, of Odessa; daughter, Shyrl Johnston of Garland; step-daughter Loretta and her husband, and Bob Leslie of Odessa; step-sons and their wives, Larry and Kim Sharp of Watauga and Don and Mary Sharp of The Colony; one grandchild, 11 step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Carey of Sweetwater, Ernest Carey of Plains and Ben Carey of Santo; sister, Faye Tumblison of Sweetwater; and numerous nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Loretta Cox Taylor, 83, of Odessa will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Taylor died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born April 10, 1915, in Coryell County. She married Edward D. "Jack" Taylor March 24, 1934, in Coryelle County. He died June 19, 1978. Mrs. Taylor moved to Odessa in 1943. She was a cook for Medical Center Hospital for 15 years and retired in 1972. She was a member of University Park Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Evonne Woods and her husband, Kenneth Lee, of Odessa; son, Don Taylor and his wife, Pat, of Odessa; sister, Lavern Pruitt of Clifton; two grandchildren, Michael Cogo Woods and his wife, Kristal, and Dana Deann Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Cogo Woods and Brayden Michael Woods. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Lynn Taylor in 1953. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Rosie Marie Parum, 62, of Odessa died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Oct. 30, 1936, in Gainesville. She married Joe Kenneth Parum Dec. 28, 1953, in Weatherford. Mrs. Parum was a housewife and Baptist. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Glenn Harlin officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangememts by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Survivors include her husband, Joe Kenneth Parum of Odessa; sons, Kenneth Michael Parum and his wife, Debra, of Odessa and Steven Aaron Parum and wife, Belinda, of Odessa; daughters, Brenda Sue Tucker and her husband, Mike, of Odessa, Glenda Lou Rushing and husband, Ray, of Odessa and Karen Jo Cox and husband, Joe, of Odessa; brother, David C. Meek and wife, Barbara, of Garland; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
