December 21, 1998 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- James Louis (Shorty) Carey, 79, of Odessa went to be with God Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born April 27, 1919, in Cooper. He married Wanda Sharp in Sweetwater in 1968. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Troy Stevenson officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Shorty was a longtime resident of Odessa. He was a veteran of World War II serving in New Guinea. He retired from Phillips Petroleum in 1980. He was a member of Faith Temple Church. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Carey, of Odessa; daughter, Shyrl Johnston of Garland; stepdaughter, Loretta Leslie, and her husband, Bob Leslie, of Odessa; stepsons and their wives, Larry and Kim Sharp of Watauga and Don and Mary Sharp of The Colony; one grandchild, 11 step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Carey of Sweetwater, Ernest Carey of Plains and Ben Carey of Santo; sister, Faye Tumblison of Sweetwater; and numerous nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Ruth R. Carrillo, 74, of Odessa are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with Mickey Munoz officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Odessa Funeral Home. Mrs. Carrillo died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at her residence. She was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Cuidad Victoria, Tamps., Mexico. She was united in holy matrimony to Pedro C. Carrillo on July 4, 1944. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa; her brother, Cruz R. Rodriguez; and her mother, Candida Rodriguez, who are all rejoicing in paradise. Mrs. Carrillo was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Odessa. She worked faithfully in her church over the years and loved teaching and lecturing women's groups. She is best remembered for her expressions of loving deeds, her needlework and her cooking. One of her proudest accomplishments was that she became an American citizen. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Pedro C. Carrillo; sons and daughters, Valente Carrillo, Pete Carrillo Jr., Ruth Bustamante, Louis Carrillo, Ociel Carrillo, David Carrillo and Racheal Gonzales; sisters, Anna Maria Mendez of Cuidad Victoria, Tamps., Mexico, Candida R. Pesina of San Luis Potosi of Mexico; nieces and nephews, Josh Rodriguez of Tennessee, Eunice Guajardo of Chicago, Beth Ann Rodriguez of Louisville, Ken., Orphalinda Pena of Waco; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Amen. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Graveside services for Victoria Camille Walker, 92, of Odessa will be at 10 a.m. today Rose Hill Cemetery with C.A. Smith officiating. Mrs. Walker died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at her residence. She was born March 16, 1906, in Williamson, W.Va. She married Frank Walker Aug. 11, 1942, in Bristol, Tenn. He died in 1982. Mrs. Walker had lived in Odessa since 1942. She was a homemaker and a member of the University Boulevard Church of Christ. Survivors include her sister, Maudie Warren of Odessa. Funeral arrangements are by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Lucy Leeton Link COVINGTON, La. -- Lucy Elizabeth Leeton Link, 53, of Covington, La., a Certified Public Accountant, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Covington, La., after a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 2, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas. While at UT, she was a Zeta Tau Alpha and made her debut at the Steeplechase Club in Fort Worth in 1965. Services were Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Scantlin officiating. Graveside services will be Saturday, Dec. 19, in Fort Worth at Greenwood Memorial Park. Arrangements by Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Survivors include her husband, Peter J. Link Sr.; son, Peter J. Link Jr. of Houston; daughters, Elizabeth M. Link of Austin, Patricia L. Link and Helen C. Link, both of Covington, La.; parents, James R. and Peggy Lewis Leeton of Midland; brother, James R.
