December 21, 1998 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA--Today we celebrate in faith that our dedicated Husband, nurturing Father and loving PaPa has gone to rejoice with his Lord, Jesus Christ in Heaven. Ronnie Elbert Lawler Sr., 56, of Odessa ended his long and courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 18, 1998. Ronnie was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Mabank, Texas, and shared 39 years of marriage with Lillie Pauline Barton. Together they raised five children and enjoyed 13 grandchildren. He was an active member and ordained elder of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Ronnie's life touched many people through his service in jail ministry and Stephen ministry. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Pauline of Odessa; daughter, Angie Coleman and husband, Rickey of Perrinton, Mich.; daughter, Pauline Phillips and husband, Charles of Midland; son, Ronnie Jr. and wife, Sherri, of Odessa; daughter, Natalie Tidwell and husband, Ty, of Odessa; and son, Richard and wife, Jaci of Midland; 13 grandchildren; father, Cooper Lawler; sisters, Monique Langford and Suzanne Lawler of Oregon; three brothers, Billy Lawler, Bobby Lawler of Oregon, James Lawler of Temple, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Burns of Oregon. The family will receive friends and family at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors on Sunday, Dec. 20 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors on Monday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Dr. Jimmy Braswell and Dr. Craig Martindale officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family requests any memorials be given to Home Hospice of Odessa in honor of Ronnie Lawler. May God bless Home Hospice for the love, caring and emotional support they bestowed to all of us. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA--Thelma "Deanie" McMahan Moyaert returned to Heaven on Dec. 18, 1998. She was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Joy, Ark. Mrs. Moyaert spent her formative years in El Paso, Texas, where she graduated from Austin High School. She worked as a telephone operator in both El Paso and New York City. She married A.J. "Rusty" Moyaert on Dec. 1, 1942, in Hattisburg, Miss. The Moyaert family moved to Odessa in 1964. Mrs. Moyaert was a devoted and loving wife and mother who raised two beautiful children. She gave her time and love to everyone she met, and sought to make everyone a little happier with her cheer and warmth. She was an avid bridge player. Mrs. Moyaert is survived by her husband, A.J. "Rusty" Moyaert and their daughter, Aline "Chickie" Moyaert-Martin, of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her grandson, Joey Martin and his wife, Kim and her granddaughter, Tara Martin Moore and her husband, Josh, and two great-grandchildren, Danny and Bailey. Survivors also include her niece, Mary McNicol and nephew, Don McNicol and his wife, Beth. Mrs. Moyaert is preceded in death by her son, Danny. Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, with the Rev. James Bridges officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22 at Evergreen Cemetery East in El Paso. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School Library of Odessa, Texas or the Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA-- John Robert Thrower, 67, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Westwood Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Adkins and Don Turskey officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. He was born Dec. 24, 1930, in Borger, Texas to Eugene and Lucille Thrower. He married Melba E. Wallum Aug. 8, 1974, in Odessa. She died Oct. 2, 1997. He worked for the Odessa American as an advertising representative for 10 years. In addition, he was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Medical Center Auxiliary and National Rifle Association. He had been a member of the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang since 1973, an Eagle Lodge member and a member of the Optimist Club in Odessa and Borger. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Bailey Hale; his wife, Melba Thrower; his sister, Mary Lou Thrower and his brother, Bud Thrower. He is survived by his daughter, Janilyn Hopie and her husband, Bennie Hancock of Odessa; brother, Dwight Wallum of Midland, Texas; sister, Marsha Lynn and her husband, Sidney Hughes, of Odessa; granddaughter Tami Benavidez and her husband, Scott, of Odessa; granddaughter, April Hancock of Wichita, Kan. and five great grandsons. The family suggests memorials to Friendship Baptist Daycare or Midland Christian School. Pallbearers from the Medical Center Auxilliary are Tom Johnson, Jiggs McCombs, Dillard Miller, Jack Durham, Bill Perkins and Bob Jackson. Arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA--Isom Poole, 78, of Odessa, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Odessa Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. He was born July 4, 1920, in Marlin to Will and Mary Poole. He served in the Army from October 1942 until his honorable discharge of January 1946 at the rank of sergeant. He enjoyed all of the hunting seasons and he worked for 45 years as a mechanic at Sewell Ford. He was a beloved father, grandfather and uncle. He leaves behind many relatives and friends who will remember his giving spirit and they find peace in the knowledge that he is with the Lord. He is survived by his daughter, KayKay Poole of Midland; brothers, Chester Poole of Lufkin and Grover Poole of Marlin; sisters, Gladys Deary of Odessa and Lowraine Poole of Marlin and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Odessa Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA--Funeral services for Darla Burton Hadid, 62, of Odessa will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at the Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Fankhauser officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hadid died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at her residence. She was born May 10, 1936, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She married Lewis Hadid Feb. 14, 1987, in Odessa. She was a member of the Antioch Christian Church. She is survived by her son, Ricky Burton of Odessa; daughter, Cecilia Mullin of Austin; brother, Edmond Tillman and his wife, Mary, of Odessa; grandchildren, Tony Burton and his wife, Shawna of Odesa and J.R. Mullins of Odessa. She is also survived by her nephew, Todd Tillman and his wife, Tonya of Odessa and her great-grandchild, Shelby Shanay Blair of Odessa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, in 1991.
