August 26, 1999 Permian Basin Death Notices John Asel KERMIT — John "Jack" Asel, 63, of Jal, N.M., an employee of El Paso Natural Gas, died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kermit Cemetery with the Rev. Michael May officiating. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. He was born in Rouseville, Penn., and has lived in Jal, N.M., for 43 years. SURVIVORS: Sons, John E. Asel of Las Cruces, N.M., Terry J. Asel of Hobbs, N.M.; brother, Lee T. Asel of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Ilene Reid and Irene Shreffler, both of Jal, N.M., and Pat Cook of Erie, Penn.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Anna Berzoza KERMIT — Anna Maria Berzoza, 33, of Kermit, a retired employee of Kermit Independent School District, died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. John Lucido officiating. Burial will be at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. She was born in Kermit and was a lifelong resident. She was Catholic. SURVIVORS: Son, Andrew Berzoza of Kermit; brother, Pedro Garcia Jr. of Kermit; sister, Belinda Morales of Kermit; and grandmother, Eulojia Hernandez of Kermit. Lajuana Byrd STANTON — Lajuana Sue Byrd, 63, of Stanton, a secretary, died on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, in a Midland hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Harp officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Arrangements by Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. She was born in Floydada. She moved to Stanton in 1961 from Midland. She was Baptist. SURVIVORS: Husband, Eugene Byrd of Stanton; sons, Ernest Byrd of Johnson City and Lee Byrd of New Braunfels; daughter, Diane Byrd of Stanton; mother, Elizabeth Newton of Lubbock; sisters, Dorothy Cummings of Branson, Mo., and JoAnn Linch of Lubbock; and six grandchildren. Burl Sparkman BANGS — Burl Sparkman, 77, of Bangs, a retired oil drilling superintendent, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Allen Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements by Davis-Morris Funeral Home. He was born in Tennessee. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Church of Christ. SURVIVORS: Wife, Fern Sparkman of Bangs; son, Larry Sparkman of Odessa; daughter, Linda Ruth Wolsch of Odessa; stepson, Gary Boyd of Dallas; stepdaughter, Dyan Bramwell of Midland; brother, Ed Neal of Germantown, Tenn.; stepfather, E.S.
