"Dude" Carroll, 84, of Fort Stockton, a retired driller, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Pecos County Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Apostolic Tabernacle Church with the Rev. C.G. Gilmer officiating. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home. He was born in Hebron and has been a resident of Fort Stockton since 1962. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Apostolic Tabernacle Church. Luke Cathey ABILENE — Luke W. Cathey, 69, of Abilene, retired owner of Cathey’s Tree Service in Midland and Odessa, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at his residence. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. James United Methodist Church with the Revs. Curtis Cadenhead and Ava Berry officiating. Arrangements by Girdner-Brown Funeral Home. He was born in Martin County. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was Methodist. Vincent Lara PECOS — Vincent Jeremiah Lara, infant son of Bobby and Diana Lara of Pecos, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. He was born in Pecos. He was Catholic. Thurlie Smith ODESSA — Thurlie Etta Additon Smith, 86, of Odessa, a retired teacher, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at a local hospital. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cheryl Homsher officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Exeter Cemetery in Exeter, N.H. Arrangements by Brewitt Funeral Service and local arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. She was born in Leeds, Maine, and moved to Odessa in 1987. She was Presbyterian. SURVIVORS: Son, Donald Hammond Smith, of Wellesley, Mass.; daughters, Dorothy Carroll of Wilmington, N.C., and Lois Smith Hale of Odessa; sister, Erma Mower of Greene, Maine; and seven grandchildren. Bennie Shepard LUBBOCK — Bennie Marie Shepard, 78, of Lubbock, a retired nurse, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in Lubbock.
