January 3, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Amelia Nabarrette ODESSA -- Amelia Valenzuela Nabarrette, 70, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Luis Zepeda officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Martinez Funeral Home. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. She was born June 29, 1928, in Madison, Wyo., to Maria Reyes and Jose Valenzuela. She was Catholic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luis Nabarrette Sr., and a daughter, Estella Nabarrette. Survivors include daughters, Virginia Sandate, Erlinda Whicker, Esperanza Rodriguez, Hortencia Wiley, Raquel Rodriguez and Maria Louisa Rios, all of Odessa; sons, Jesus Sandate Jr. of Midland, Luis Nabarrette Jr., Domingo Nabarrette and Enrique Nabarrette, all of Odessa; sisters, Sarita Bijiarro of Michigan, Tomasa Diaz of Barstow and Juanita Grando of Pecos; 29 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren. Her grandsons will be pallbearers. _________________________________________________________________ Alice Loretta Moody ODESSA -- Alice Loretta Moody passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital at the age of 74. She was born in Norfolk, Neb., on Oct. 11, 1924. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Dr. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial at Mt. Solitude Cemetery in Searsport, Maine. Viewing will be noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 10 a.m. Monday. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Alice Moody was a resident of Odessa for 2 1/2 years. She is survived by her husband, David L. Moody; two daughters, Pamela Alice Lee of Orem, Utah, and Trudy Ann Thomason of Odessa; seven grandchildren, John Lee of Midland, David Thomason of Odessa, Andrew Lee of Orem, Utah, Christi Kurtz of Odessa, Suzanne of Orem, Utah, Beth Lee of Orem, Utah; six great-grandchildren; six sisters, Ruby Morroco, Wilma Frost, Vera Scott, Marian Thornley, Glicia Palmenteri, Donna La Venture; and brother, Thomas Wirth. Hicks SAN ANTONIO -- Bertha M. Hicks, 85, passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 1999. She was born May 30, 1913, in Nocona, Texas, to Grover Cleveland Lasseter and Ola May Sullivan Lasseter. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Robert Hicks, who died in 1990. She was a registered nurse in Odessa and Crosbyton. Survivors are sons Jimmy Hicks and his wife, Gloria, of San Antonio and Tommy Hicks and his wife, Jerilyn, of Grand Prairie; and grandchildren, Robert and Cary Hicks. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 3, at Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio. Services will be 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at Sunset Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Allen officiating.
