January 06, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Peter Paul Chernick SAN ANGELO -- Peter Paul Chernick, 57, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at his residence in Odessa of an illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with burial in Lawnhaven Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Johnson Funeral Home. Pete was born Sept. 9, 1941, in Deerborn, Mich. When he was 18 years old, Pete began his career in the U.S. Navy as a language linguist and his military tour took him all over the world. He was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in 1970 as an instructor. Later, in 1972, he was honorably discharged from the Navy and he focused his attention on receiving a teaching degree. He earned two Master's degrees from Angelo State University. Then in 1977, he embarked on his career in the San Angelo ISD with the education of specially challenged students. In 1979, he began the development of disciplinary programs for the student body with the introduction of On-Campus Suspension and the Student Adjustment Center. Then, in 1987, he was hired to groom the teaching faculty, which we are all still benefitting from today. He also was affiliated with the Sundown Lions Club, The Knights of Columbus and the Concho Educators Federal Credit Union. He and his wife relocated to Odessa in 1995 to begin shaping the teaching personnel for Ector County ISD. Pete was the president of Texas Association of School Personnel Administration from 1996 to 1997. Survivors include his wife, Joan; a son, Peter Chernick V of San Angelo; four daughters, Kimberly Francis of San Angelo, Lauri Church of Dallas, Monica Chernick of San Antonio and Michele Chernick of San Angelo. The family has requested that monetary contributions be donated to a charity of choice in Pete's memory. _________________________________________________________________ George Daniel Cooper Sr. ODESSA -- Services for George Daniel Cooper Sr., 74, of Odessa, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Martinez Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Cooper died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Shiro. He had lived in Odessa since 1942. Mr. Cooper was a porter in automechanics. He was Baptist. Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, Lum Cooper and Laura Robinson Cooper; and three brothers. Survivors include his daughters, Billie Ruth Cooper of Denver, Laura Cooper-Law Jones of Dallas, Billie Dell Cooper and Lois Willis-Nelson, both of Odessa, Hattie Long of Lancaster; sons, George Daniel Cooper Jr. of Odessa and Timothy Willis of Midland; brother, Columbus Cooper of Midland; sisters, Lucinda Watson and Kathrine Wilson, both of Odessa, and Eddie Lee Searcy of Midland.
