January 17, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA --John Newton Hensley, 71, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. He was born May 25, 1927, in Prue, Okla., to Adam and Mary Hensley. He married Syble Maxine Bilbrey on Aug. 11, 1951, in Hobbs, N.M. They were married 47 years, five months and five days. Mr. Hensley is a lifelong Baptist and has served at least 30 of those years as a deacon. He has long been a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He retired as a Field Supervisor in 1988, after 41 years with Conoco Inc. His four granddaughters were the light of his life and brought him great joy and pride. He leaves behind many family and friends, who rejoice that his earthly pain has ended, and give thanks to God for his daily witness. He moved to Odessa in 1938 from Kilgore, Texas. He graduated from Odessa High School and attended Odessa College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife, Maxine Hensley, of Odessa, Texas; sons, John Rodney Hensley of New Orleans, La. and Jarvis Alan Hensley of Tulsa, Okla.; brother, E.E. Hensley of Odessa, Texas; sister, Lucille McClead of Brownwood, Texas; mother-in-law, Beatrice Riley of Odessa, and granddaughters, Renee M. Hensley, Trisha L. Hensley and Kirsten M. Hensley, all of New Orleans, La. and Heather N. Hensley of Tulsa, Okla. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hensley was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert Hensley and Orval Hensley and two sisters, Opal Lamm and Beatrice Aylor. (Curley) Maxwell, 71, of Odessa died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at his residence. He was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Cisco, Texas. He moved to Odessa from Cisco in 1948, and married Donna Hage on March 14, 1959. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy. He retired as a pipeline construction superintendent after 35 years with McVean and Barlow. Survivors include his wife, Donna Maxwell, of Odessa; daughters, Beverly Maxwell of Odessa, Lisa Maxwell of Midland and Kelly Goode of Austin. He also is survived by a brother, Terry Maxwell of Cushing, Okla.; a sister, Bonnie Pritchard of Odessa; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastors Preston Weatherly and James Otterness officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
