January 28, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Jackie Glen Hubbard, 57, of Odessa died Jan. 27, 1999, at Odessa Regional Hospital. He was born May 2, 1941, in Coleman. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Danny Willis officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mr. Hubbard moved to Odessa in 1945 from San Antonio. He was a retired sandblaster and painter. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Hubbard, and a brother, Robert Hubbard. He is survived by his mother, Inez Hubbard of Odessa; daughter, Margaret Springer of Midland; brothers, Maurice Hubbard, Larry Hubbard, Freddie Hubbard, Milton Hubbard and Leslie Hubbard, all of Odessa; sister, Earlene Barnes of Odessa; granddaughter, Meagan Springer of Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________________________ Otha Draper ODESSA -- Graveside services for Otha Draper will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Draper was born Nov. 12, 1915, near Paducah in Cottle County, Texas. He attended public schools in West Texas, primarily in Hardeman and Kent counties. He received his Bachelor's of Science degree in Mathematics in the summer of 1938 from West Texas State College at Canyon, Texas. He taught school for two years in Shallowwater, Texas, from 1938 to 1940. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 5, 1940, and transferred to the Army Air Corps the next year. He graduated from the Air Corps Navigation School at Mather Field, Calif., in Aug. 1942. The 308th Bomb Group of B-24s was being formed in Tuscon, Ariz., at this time and he was a charter member of this group, serving the rest of the war and two tours of duty in China. At the end of the war, he returned to his home in Odessa and spent the next 41 years there as a land surveyor. He retired in 1987 and moved to Midland. Survivors include his wife, Matilda Draper of Midland; sons, James Draper of Midland and Jesse Draper of Bethesda, Md.; daughter, Marjorie Schneider of Princeton, Texas; brothers, Sam Draper of Midland and Olan Draper of Odessa; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Midland. Funeral arrangements are by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. _________________________________________________________________ Dr. E. Don Taylor ODESSA -- After a proud and brave battle with cancer, Dr. E. Don Taylor died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Memorial Park and Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. A visitation with Dr. Taylor's family, friends and students will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa. Dr. Taylor was born Sept. 30. 1910, in Clifton. He was a lifelong resident of Odessa. Dr. Taylor's educational achievements include his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Texas Tech University and his post-doctoral studies at Texas A&M and Florida State University. In the fall of 1968, Dr. Taylor joined the Odessa College Chemistry Department as an instructor. He served as Chair of the Chemistry/Physics Department from 1982 to the present. Dr. Taylor's greatest professional accomplishments were his gift for teaching and his dedication to his students. He was a member of the National American Chemical Society and the Permian Basin section of the American Chemical Society. He also served as the Odessa College Medical Advisor for pre-med and health-profession students. Dr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughter, Dana Deann Taylor; and one sister, Evonne Woods. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Children's Art Project, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston 77030 or a charity of your choice. _________________________________________________________________ Barbara Smith ODESSA --Barbara Elaine Smith died Jan. 26, 1999, in Dallas. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. A private interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2910 Swiss Ave., Dallas or the American Parkinson's Disease Association (c/o Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas). Barbara Elaine Marshall was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Shreveport, La. In 1946, she married Robert Dale Lindsay. She and Bob moved their family to Odessa in 1959, where they were members of First Baptist Church. After Bob's death in 1977, she married GaiI Smith in 1980. Barbara and Gail moved to Country Place in Carrollton in 1990 where they developed many new friendships. Following Gail's death in 1991, Barbara continued to live in Country Place until moving to Walnut Place Nursing Home in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Wood and her husband, Clark, of Dallas; a son, Richard Lindsay and his wife, Suzanne, of Grapevine; step-son, Curt Smith and wife, Lynette, of Odessa; grandchildren, Jimmy Wood, Jerry Wood, Jamie Wood, Matthew Lindsay, Shane Smith and Aimee Smith; brother, William Marshall of Canada; and a host of friends in Shreveport, La., Odessa and Carrollton. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Mary Eleanor Weathermon, 84, of Odessa, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Kermit Cemetery in Kermit. Mrs. Weathermon died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Denton. She married Britt C. Weathermon June 17, 1950. He died in 1980. Mrs. Weathermon moved to Odessa in 1980. She was a retired school teacher and had taught school in Paint Rock, Grandfalls, Kermit, Merced, Calif., Wink and at Odessa High School. She was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church. She had been an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teachers' honorary society, for many years. She loved to travel and was very knowledgeable in this area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mary Brown. Survivors include brothers, Charles Brown and his wife, Mary Lou, of Fort Worth and Jack W. Brown of Denver; nieces, Carole Thomas and Sandra Sue Sartor and her husband, Joe; nephews, Charles S. Brown, Jack W. Brown Jr., David Brown and Richard Brown.
