February 04, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries ODESSA -- Mass for Jose Carrillo, 91, of Odessa, a retired cement layer, will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at 1544 Timothy Drive. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Carrillo died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Odessa Regional Hospital. He was born June 17, 1907, in Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was Catholic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa R. Carrillo; parents, Macario Carrillo and Pascuala Navarrette Carrillo; and a son, Noel Carrillo. Survivors include his sons, Arcadio Carrillo, Santana Carrillo and Jose L. Carrillo, all of Odessa, and Pablo Carrillo of Oxford, Pa.; daughters, Angelica Rocha and Lilia Rocha, both of El Paso, Rufina Ramirez of Los Angeles, Leonila Fanco and Elidia Acosta, both of Odessa, Josefa Delgado of Cuidad Aldame, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Bertha Rodriguez of Toughkenama, Pa.; 64 grandchildren, 123 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Anna Faye Gatlin, 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 29, 1934, to James Edward and Dora Williams. Chapel services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Ring III officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Anna married her one and only true love in life, Billy Wilthe Gatlin, on May 20, 1951, in Midland. They were married for 38 years. Anna lived in Odessa most of her life. She retired with Regis and Washington Inventory Companies. She also managed apartment units in the Odessa area. She was the perfect wife and mother and loved spoiling her family and sharing the laughter of life. Anna was preceded in death by her father, James Edward Williams, and her husband, Billy Wilthe Gatlin. Survivors include her mother, Dora Dean Williams of Brownwood; sons, Billy Wilthe Gatlin Jr. and wife, Kaye, of El Paso, Dwayne Gatlin and wife, Jeanetta, of El Paso; daughter, Lawana Smith and husband, Tommy, of Odessa; brothers, Edward Williams of Marble Falls and Johnny A. Williams of Granite Shoals; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Charles Wayne Griffice, 74, of Odessa died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Big Spring. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Tom Hiser officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Lohn Cemetery in Lohn. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mr. Griffice moved to Odessa from Midland 39 years ago and was employed by Brown and Bigelow. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Griffice of Odessa; sons, Jerry Griffice of Brady, Mike Griffice of Odessa and Rick Griffice of Granbury; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. _________________________________________________________________ Efrem "Sam" Samaniego Jr. HOUSTON -- Efrem "Sam" Samaniego Jr., 56, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in Houston. Mr. Samaniego was born Oct. 19, 1942, in Monahans. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Efren and Mary Lou Samaniego, and is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Ann Samaniego; daughters, Lisa Skelton and Kristi Samaniego and her fiance, Paul Robishaw; grandson, Mark Skelton Jr.; sister, Mary Crain; brothers, Mark Samaniego and wife, Anette, Michael Samaniego and wife, Kelly; mother-in-law, Katherine Carrabba; sister-in-law, Josie Ditta and husband, Vincent; brothers-in-law, Frank Carrabba and Joseph Carrabba. A vigil for the deceased will be said at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, followed by a rosary at Geo H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, with Deacon Rob Stevens officiating. Funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 8200 Roos, with the Rev. Ralph Roberts, celebrant.
