February 23, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Neoma Alexander, 87, of Odessa passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Alexander was born Feb. 14, 1912, in Ada, Okla. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. Chapel services for Mrs. Alexander will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Alexander, and her son, Thomas Wade Alexander. Survivors include two daughters, Doris and her husband, Jim Ash, of Odessa and Betty and her husband, Ray Boltz, of Longview; six grandchildren, Karen McGinnis, David Boltz, Jeromy Ash, Patty Cleckler, Tracy Hanson and T.J. Alexander; and eight great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Sam C. Lance, 80, of Odessa died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Stanton Health Care Center in Stanton. He was born Jan. 26, 1919, in Chillicothe. He was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Odessa from Chillicothe in 1945 and married Margaret Carpenter in 1947 in Toyah. He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge 1385, Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. He was a self-employed plumber for over 50 years and a member of the Plumber and Pipefitters Union and loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lance, in 1977. He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Richard M. Cummins of Odessa; son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bobby) and Sharon Lance of Odessa. He is also survived by sisters, Eva Young of Hale Center and Mickey Hammer of Wichita Falls; four grandchildren, Richard Lance Cummins, Christopher Dale Cummins, Samuel Jonathan Lance and Robbey Lance; and cousin, Nettie James of Dallas; and long-time caretaker, Doris Battin. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Emmitt Barnard officiating. Interment and Masonic Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Big Valley Cemetery in Chillicothe. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Memorial services for Annie Boyd White, 96, of Odessa will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Revs. Mark Riley and Ted Owen officiating. Mrs. White died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Jan. 3, 1903, in Bonita. She married Finis I. White Dec. 3, 1921, in Marshall. He died June 22, 1989. Mrs. White came to Odessa in 1965. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her daughters, Inez Gaskins and her husband, W.L., of Odessa and Maridel Swafford of Lovington, N.M.; sister, Modena Owen of Marshall; and brother, the Rev. J. Hubert Boyd of Harleton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Syble Handley ODESSA -- Syble Handley, 91, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1907, to N.J. and Vella Parker in Bivins. Mrs. Handley married James Wade Handley April 3, 1926, in Bivins. He preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by a son, J. W. Handley. Mrs. Handley was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Charles and Dwain Handley, both of Odessa; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Troy Stevenson officiating.
