February 27, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Lanis Marie Babcock, 51, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at her residence. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Watkins will officiate. Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Babcock was born March 4, 1947, in Monahans. In 1948, she and her family moved to Odessa. She married Robert E. Babcock, November 24, 1970 in Riverside, California. She loved to paint and was very talented with arts and crafts. She also loved to camp and fish. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She is survived by: her parents, W.L. and Pearl Harrison of Odessa; her husband, Robert E. Babcock of Odessa; one son, Lewis Lynn Babcock of Odessa; one stepdaughter, Dinise Farr of Odessa; one sister, Debbie Watkins of Odessa; one brother, Randy Harrison of Odessa; and one grandchild, Paige Farr of Odessa. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Billie G. DeFoyd, 78, of Odessa died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Winters and married Charles DeFoyd Dec. 25, 1937, in Frederick, Okla. She was a retired beautician and Baptist. She moved to Odessa from Monahans in 1980 where she had volunteered at Ward County Hospital as a "pink lady." Survivors include her husband, Charles DeFoyd of Odessa; sister, Opal Wheeler of Abilene; nephews and nieces, Dean Davenport of San Antonio, Veda Vosburg of Stephenville, Mosel of Tucson, Ariz., Vinite Christiansen of Abilene, John Elder of Oklahoma, Dale Elder of Bryan, Bob DeFoyd of Houston and Jim DeFoyd of Houston. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ Hazel Braswell ODESSA -- Graveside services for Hazell Braswell, 100, of Odessa will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Mrs. Braswell died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital after a short illness. She was born Nov. 7, 1898, in Vernon. She married Clay Braswell April 26, 1944, in Midland. Mrs. Braswell moved to Odessa in 1983 from Dallas. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Braswell. Survivors include her son, James Braswell and his wife, Judy, of Dallas; granddaughters, Susan McCulloch and her husband, John, of Plano, Kathi Braswell of Dallas and Angie Colbert and her husband, Charles, of Frisco; great-granddaughters, Meaghan and Melissa McCulloch of Plano and Erin and Kelly Colbert of Frisco; friend and companion, Oralia "Lee" Sanchez; nieces, Mary Tom Hansard of Albuquerque, N.M., Alice Maples of Amarillo; and great-niece, Judy Campbell of Albuquerque, N.M. The family suggest memorials be made to the American Heart Association. _________________________________________________________________ Mary Aline Mahaney ODESSA -- Mary Aline Mahaney, 86, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, in a local nursing home. Mrs. Mahaney was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Marietta, Ga. She had been a longtime resident of Fort Worth where she owned several restaurants. She moved to Odessa in 1977 and was a member of the Eastern Star and Temple Baptist Church of Odessa. She was an avid reader and loved reading her Bible as well as self-improvement and positive thinking material. She also loved to sew and crochet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar B. Mahaney, in 1975; her son, Don Allen Mahaney; her sisters, Mattie, Eva and Curt; her brothers, Bob and Emmit; and her parents, Charles and Louella Kimberley. She is survived by one daughter, Billie Edgar Bannister and her husband, Billy D. Bannister of Odessa; two granddaughters, Deborah Hernandez of Odessa and Sharon Moon of Burlingame, Kan.; and five great-grandchildren. Public visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, March 1, 1999, in Laurel Land Cemetery of Fort Worth under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Thelma Henrietta "Retta" Iglehart ODESSA -- Services for Thelma Henrietta "Retta" Iglehart, 93, of Odessa will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Midessa Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Sellers officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today at Colorado City Cemetery. Mrs. Iglehart died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Memorial Hospital & Medical Center in Midland after a short illness. She was born Oct. 11, 1905, in Cleburne. She married Conway Iglehart July 14, 1966, in Tulsa, Okla. He died in 1973. Mrs. Iglehart has lived in Odessa for the past 33 years. She was always active in her church, the First Baptist Church in Altus, Okla., the University Baptist Church in Shawnee, Okla., and Midessa Heights Baptist Church in Odessa. Love was a two-way street for her. Retta loved her family and friends and her family and friends loved her. People continually said she was a "sweetie" and a "sweetheart." She was a sweetheart of a lady. She lived a pure life, serving God and loving many. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Iglehart, a cattleman from Odessa; brothers, Bailey Lankford and Spencer Lankford; and sister, Jewel Mae Wade. Survivors include nieces, Moleta King of Owasso, Okla., Mary Sue Zimmerman of Alpharetta, Ga., and Margaret Lankford of Tulsa, Okla.; nephew, Jerry Lankford of Del City, Okla.; great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Zimmerman Paulk, John Mark Zimmerman, Michelle King Ray and Megan King Dunham; sisters-in-law, Stattie Rice and Audrey Lytle; and friends who loved her like a sister, Johnny and Oleeta Hyden.
