March 04, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Bennie J. Christian, 65, of Odessa will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Crescent Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Christian died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at his residence. He was born March 11, 1933, in Hollene, N.M. He married Sue M. Christian Jan. 18, 1954, in Clovis, N.M. He was a construction supervisor and served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Sue M. Christian of Odessa; sons, Gary W. Christian and Terry L. Christian, both of Odessa; daughter, Jane E. McKeel of Odessa; grandchildren, Amber Christian, Kyle Christian, April Christian, Jonathan McKeel and Kayla Christian, all of Odessa; sisters, Elizabeth King of Elsinore, Calif., Verta Simington of Salem, Ark., Betty Jo Byers of Fullerton, Calif. Funeral arrangements are by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Gregorio Garcia Galvan, 74, of Odessa died peacefully at his home Tuesday, March 2, 1999. He was born Dec. 8, 1924, in San Benito. He married Dominga Aguilar, Jan. 17, 1946, in Harlingen and they moved to Odessa in 1957. He was a hard worker and loved to work. He was the former owner of G.G. Galvan & Sons. He enjoyed life and loved fishing, horseracing, chickens and his goats. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dominga, April 11, 1995; and daughter, Petra Galvan, Dec. 8, 1993. He is survived by his children, whom he loved, sons, Gregorio Galvan Jr. of Midland, Isidro Galvan, Antonio (Tony) Galvan, Domingo Galvan and Danny Galvan, all of Odessa; daughters, Vicenta (Vicky) Villarreal, Paula Rivera and Diana Sauceda, all of Odessa; 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and sisters, Juan Galvan of Odessa, Trine Angiano of Harlingen and Maria Langley of California. A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 1999, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Craig DeArmond officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, March 5, 1999, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez, celebrant. Interment will be in Ector County/Rosehill Cemetery. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Dr. Joseph V. Gibson, 74, of Odessa died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born April 3, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Penn., but he Iived in Kingwood, W.V., for 18 years. He was the son of Ethel LaRue and Joseph V. Gibson Sr. of Kingwood, W.V. Dr. Gibson graduated with honors from Kingwood High School where he starred in football and basketball making the West Virginia High School All-State basketball team. After graduation, he enrolled in West Virginia University in pre-medicine. His education was interrupted by World War II and he volunteered at age 18 as a paratrooper. He served in the 511th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in December 1945. Returning to his education at West Virginia University, he graduated, doing post graduate studies at Perdue State University. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and interned at Philadelphia General Hospital. Dr. Gibson practiced family medicine from 1952 in Kermit until his retirement. He was a member of the AMA, Texas Medical Association, Winkler County Medical Society, and was one of the founders and charter members of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Kermit. He belonged to the Odessa Country Club and was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy G. Price in 1993; and a brother, Milford L, Gibson in 1994. Dr. Gibson married Harriett Wood of Beckley, W.V. on Jan. 5, 1946; she preceded him in death in 1985. In June 1994, he married Billy Jean Rowe of Odessa. He and B.J. loved to travel, which they did quite extensively. He is survived by his wife, Billy Jean Gibson of Odessa; sons, David H. Gibson of Austin and Judge Jay Gibson of Odessa; sister, Margaret Mclntire of Odessa; grandchildren, Joseph V. Gibson IV and Jennifer Melissa Gibson of Houston; nieces, Jane Boles of Odessa and Melissa Sherrod of Fort Worth. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Laura Deaderick officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. If desired, memorials may be made to the West Texas Food Bank, Harmony Home or the charity of your choice. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 5, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Graveside services for Thelma Mary Green, 71, of Odessa will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James R. Otterness officiating. Mrs. Green died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, in Odessa. She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Hobart, Okla., to Nancy B. Wyatt and Elmo Willis. She married L.J. Green June 9, 1947. Mrs. Green was a homemaker who loved to read. She had lived in Odessa for 45 years after moving from Borger, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.J. Green; parents, Elmore WIllis and Nancy B. Willis; daughter, Nancy E. Miller; and brothers, Paul Willis and Clifford Willis. Survivors include her sons, Larry James Green and Terry Eugene Green, both of Odessa; sisters, Maybell Smith of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Nelley Hunt of Oklahoma City, Lois Brown of Littleton, Colo., Helen Felker of Norman, Okla., and Glenda McClung of Edward, Okla.
