March 26, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Dessie Mae Hicks Jackson, 91, was born March 18, 1908, to Mack Henry and Maude (Clemons) Hicks, who resided in Council Hill. "Mama Mae," as she was lovingly called, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. She lived most of her life around the Council Hills area, and had cooked for the school for six years before moving to Odessa, Texas, to work for the Scott Theaters and Plains Drive-In for 22 years until retirement. "Mama Mae" then moved back to Checotah, where she resided for 27 years. Words cannot express what a loving and wonderful mother she was. Her love and generosity have touched many lives as her heart and home housed everyone. Survivors are her children; Boots and Wallace Scott, Odessa, Texas, Mack and Karen Jackson, Pasadena, Texas, June and Ovid King, Checotah, Okla., Lawton and Kim Jackson, Spring, Texas, Thomas and Linda Jackson, Houston; 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Franklin, Grace Lemon and Shirley Paden, all of Council Hill, and Inez Holland of Morris, Okla.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, Mack Henry and Maude Hicks; sister, Lena Parks, Odessa; brothers, Tom Hicks, Savannah, Ga., Perry Hicks and Gibson Hicks, both of Council Hill. Services were held Sunday, March 21, 1999, at 2:30 p.m. in the Council Hill Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Haggard and Mack A. Jackson officiating. Burial was held at Council Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were her children. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright © 1999 Odessa American. All rights reserved.
