April 05, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Carolyn Virginia Allen Brasfield, 75, beloved mother, wife, went to sleep in the arms of the Lord March 31, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She fought the fight with cancer with all of her heart, strength and soul. Family and friends will gather between 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Martinez Funeral Home April 5, 1999. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Melvin L. Warren officiating. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home of Odessa. She was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Spartanburg, S.C., the daughter of Edward L. and Lucille Bonner Allen. They preceded her in death. She married Otis E. Brasfield on March 5, 1944, in Orlando, Fla. Her beloved husband preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1993. She graduated from Miami Senior High School in 1941. She earned an associate degree from Harrison's Business College in 1943. She worked for Home Savings Association from 1962 until 1978. She left as a senior savings officer and assistant vice president. She worked for Meister Industries from 1978 until 1993 as an executive secretary. She was very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as regent between 1975 and 1977 and as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1974. She was a charter and organizing member of the General Matthew Duncan Ector Chapter. She was also president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy between 1961 and 1962 and 1977 and 1980. She had been active in many community activities. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women and she had received many awards for her career and civic contributions. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa. Survivors include her son, Otis E. Brasfield Jr.; daughter-in-law Judy Diane Hail Brasfield; brother, Edward Allen of Lakeland, Fla.; sister, Jean Allen Scherer of Atlanta, Ga. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Evelyn Dathine Estoll, 63, of Odessa are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Reverend Craig DeArmond officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens following chapel services. Mrs. Estoll died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Marble Falls, Texas. She married Joe Estoll Aug. 7, 1952, in Odessa. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her husband, Joe Estoll of Elgin, Texas; sons, Stanley Estoll of Denver, Colo. and Ricky Estoll of Odessa; daughters, Cathy Garvin of Elgin, Texas and Debbie Brooks of Odessa; sisters, Doris Wimberly of Austin, Texas, Jo Ann DeLeon of Odessa and Mildrea Galbo of Hayward, Calif. and five grandchildren, Kimberly Garvin of Elgin and Christian Estoll, Cody Brooks, Chelsey Estoll and Christopher Estoll, all of Odessa. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Venancio Garcia ODESSA -- Venancio Garcia, 41, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Deering Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. today at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel and from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements made by Martinez Funeral Home. He was born June 18, 1957, in Stanton to Barbarita Guiterrez and Vicente Garcia. He had lived in Odessa since 1981 and worked at Furr's Cafeteria as a dishwasher. He is survived by his father, Vicente Garcia of Odessa; mother, Barbarita Garcia of Odessa and his brothers, Vicente Garcia Jr. of Coahoma and Vivian Garcia of Odessa. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Beatrice Paro Bracy Jones, 68, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Revs. Love Hambrick and A.L. Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Jones died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. Mrs. Jones was born June 26, 1930, in Colorado City, Texas. She moved to Odessa at an early age and attended and graduated from Frederick Douglas School. She was a member of the Royletts Social Civic and Arts Club. She first married Maynard Haynes, to this union one daughter was born. They later divorced and she married Landers Jones Jr. To this union five children were born. Upon the death of their oldest daughter, Doris, in 1972, they adopted her only child, Bryace in 1973. Mrs. Jones was a faithful Christian of the Pentecostal Faith. Her lengthy illness kept her homebound for many years until her death at Midland Memorial Hospital. She leaves behind to mourn her loving, devoted husband, Landers Jones Jr.; sons, Landers Eugene Jones III, Lonnie Jay Jones Sr., Bryace Todd (Cooper) Jones Sr.; daughters, Lydia Ann Jones-Jones, Yvonne Beatrice -Jones McGee, Junell "Nell" Jones Pearson, all of Odessa; brothers, James Hayden Sr. of Sweetwater, Bill Jones of Austin; sisters, Beth Langley Darnell, Erma Jean Saddler of Sweetwater, Margarete Huntsman of San Diego, Calif., Martha Norman Vela of Austin; 37 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Ann Haynes Cooper; stepbrother, Raymond Morris; sisters, Dorothy Hackney and Margaret Robinson; father and stepfather, Jim Paro and Arnett "Doc" Bracy; mother and stepmothers, Lela Hawkins Jones, Lydia Ann Parker and Nellie C. Paro. Arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ John Mastin ODESSA --Services for John Mastin, 78, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Phillip Mclarty and the Reverend Dr. Truman J. Warren Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Mastin came to Odessa in 1949 from Montgomery, Ala. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder for many years. He was past president of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce and he served on the committee that created Odessa's famous landmark, John Ben Rabbit, a fiberglass jack rabbit that stands seven feet high. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. Mr. Mastin was the regional director for Franklin's Women's Wear for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Mastin, in 1986. Mr. Mastin married Mary Gray on Oct. 15, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Mary Mastin; son, Mr. and Mrs. John N. Mastin of San Antonio, Texas; stepsons, Jerry Cooper of Plano, Texas and Mike Cooper of New York, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Dorothy M. Dearment of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney Mastin and Christopher Mastin, both of San Antonio, Texas and niece, Jackie Gentry of Rowlett, Texas. Visitation will begin at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home at 2 p.m. today.
