April 26, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Tommi Wood Olson, 35, of Odessa died Friday, April 23, 1999 in Lubbock. She was born Jan. 15, 1964, in Odessa. She married Marvin Olson Jan. 14, 1982, and they moved to Flint, Mich., where they lived until she returned to Odessa earlier this year. She attended schools in Odessa and was a Baptist. She was a former veterinarian's assistant and lover of all animals, especially Tara, Mocha and Yapper. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred LaVern Wood, Sr., Jan. 12, 1990. Tommi was the beloved baby sister and daughter and will be missed by all that knew her. Survivors include her husband, Marvin Olson of Flint, Mich.; mother, Nila Mae Wood; brothers, Fred Wood and wife, Jean, and John Wood and wife, Jessie; sisters, Anita Loftin and husband, Jerry, Deborah Wood and Judy Stewart, all of Odessa. Twenty-one nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive her. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. C. James McNamee officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Birdie Gray Smith, 89, of Odessa will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio. Mrs. Smith died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at her residence. She was born Sept. 10, 1909, in Chicora, Miss. Mrs Smith was formerly of San Antonio and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Bert Smith Sr.; and a son, Art Smith. Survivors include his son, G. Bert Smith and his wife, Earlene, of Odessa; daughter, Gerry Presley and her husband, Claude, of Kerrville; daughter-in-law, Janet Smith of Boerne; grandchildren, Shelby Borderlon, Sheryl Eck, Priscilla Fisher, Carolyn Knight, Trip Presley, Tisha Regalado, A. Quentin Smith, Danny Smith, Tim Smith and Sunny Smith; and 16 great-grandchildren; and her caregiver, Bonnie Shelton of Odessa. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Dwight Lowell Treeby, 89, of Odessa died April 23, 1999, at his residence. He was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Carpenter, S.D., to Walter and Esther Treeby. He married Mary Arlene Peck March 31, 1935, in Great Falls, Mont. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, at First Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Norman Owens, Paul Thompson and Wayne Woody officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mr. Treeby was ordained as a minister with the Assemblies of God Church in 1941. He worked for 32 years with Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners in both Odessa and El Paso. He opened an Electrolux store in Odessa in 1949. He was consistently one of Electrolux's top salesmen even into his 70s. Rev. Treeby was a former pastor of Fairview Assembly of God in Bellingham, Wash., from 1967 to 1975. Retiring in 1975, he then moved back to Odessa. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God. Rev. Treeby loved people and people loved him. Rev. Treeby had great compassion for those who were ill and was faithful to visit and encourage them. He had been a volunteer Chaplain at Medical Center Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Treeby; and sister, Beth Dillion. He is survived by his wife, Mary Arlene Peck Treeby of Odessa; daughter, Betty Joyce Copeland and husband, Houston, of Odessa; son, William David Treeby and wife, Nancy, of River Ridge, La.; grandsons, Vance Harper and wife, Kara, of Odessa, Patrick Treeby of Houston, Jonathan Treeby and wife, Gabrielle, of West Port, Conn.; granddaughters, Rhonda Fowler of Odessa, Janis Adkins of San Antonio and Zelda Wilmoth and husband, Joe, of Stillwater, Okla.; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Lois Davies of Elkander, Iowa; and a host of relatives and friends.
