May 11, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Ernest Lee "Abie" Lindsey was called home to be with our Lord May 9, 1999. He was the first baby boy born in McCamey, Texas on August 29, 1927, to parents, Alta "Al" and Lucille Lindsey. Abie moved to Odessa in 1953. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Margie Grigsby, Shirley McDonald and Alta B. Finley; and two grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted father. Abie is survived by one daughter, Shetheila McCarty and husband, Jimmy, of Odessa; and his sons, Jerry and wife, Donna, David and wife, Gayla, all of Odessa, Zearl "Buster" and wife, Janice, of Sanger, Texas, Dean and wife, Tammy, Clay and wife, Lanie, Temple and wife, Betty, all of Arlington, Texas, Neal and wife, Lynnette of Alvarado, Texas; one step-son, Jon Anderson and wife, Paula, of Odessa; and one brother, Tom Lindsey of Wickett, Texas. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Juanita Proctor of Odessa. Abie was a retired electronic technician and he was Baptist. Abie loved the Lord, his family and life and working with his hands. We will miss his humor, his wisdom and his zest for life. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Vine Baptist Church in Odessa with Brother Bobby Phillips officiating and graveside services in McCamey to follow. All services will be under the direction of Richard W. Box Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Tony Earnest Pontremoli ALPINE -- Tony Earnest Pontremoli, 38, has gone to be with his heavenly father on Friday, May 7, 1999, after several months of cancer. He died at his residence surrounded by his family and friends. Services were held Monday at Thompson's Harveson and Cole Funeral Home. There was a private burial. Tony was born in Odessa, Oct. 12, 1960. His parents are Jim and Winnie Pontremoli. Tony lived in Odessa for 23 years where he attended Gonazles Elementary School and Nimitz Junior High School and graduated from Permian High School. He also attended Odessa College and Houston Baptist College and majored in business. His first job was at the age of 16 with Red Lobster. He obtained this job through the D.E. course at Permian High School and since went on to become a manager and was employed there for 22 years. Tony's hobby was horses. He loved horses and went on trail rides and rode in parades with his friends. Tony will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank all doctors, hospice and all friends very much for all their help. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Eunice Langston; grandfather, Rassie Langston; aunt, Maxine Termin; and uncle, Frank Termin. Survivors include his mother, Winnie Kennedy and stepfather, Carl W. Kennedy, of Odessa; father, Jim Pontremoli of Mineral Wells; brothers, Jimmie Ray Pontremoli of Nashville, Tenn., and Freddie Lynn Pontremoli of Fort Worth; stepbrothers, Billy R. Kennedy of Odessa and Rickey A. Kennedy of Galveston; aunt and uncle, Bill and Nell Pontremoli of Mineral Wells; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, family and friends. Memorials can be sent to Community Hospice of Texas (Cleburne branch), 1208 W. Henderson, Cleburne, Texas 70031. Arrangements by Thompson's Harrison and Cole Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Ophelia Ratliff, 95, of Odessa, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born June 25, 1903, in Kress, Texas. She married Hugh Ratliff Oct. 24, 1924, in Midland. He died in November of 1981. She has lived in Odessa since 1909. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her son, Duane Ratliff of Andrews; daughter, Mary Nan Payne and Husband Davis of Midland; grandchildren, Nancy Jay Stacks and husband, Ron, of Victoria and Garry Hugh Payne of Midland; great-grandchildren, Gregory Stacks of Victoria and Rachel Payne of Midland.
