May 18, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Antonio Ulate Garcia, 41, of Odessa, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at his residence. He was born on April 5, 1958, in Pecos. He married Yolanda Huertas on Feb. 5, 1987, in Odessa. During the boom in Odessa, he worked as a welder and later became a truck driver as his father did. He was a charter member of Life Challenge Pentecostal Church. He was a loving and caring father who participated in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a proud member of the Texas Lowrider Car Club. As a great lowrider expert, he taught younger generations the true meaning of being a lowrider with pride. He was also a proud co-founder of The Magicians and New Visions Car Clubs. He was always generous with his time to volunteer to non-profit organizations. He loved classic car shows. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Yolanda H. Garcia of Odessa; son, Antonio Garcia Jr. of Odessa; daughters, Evette Marie Guerrero, Yvonne Marie Garcia and Sasha Monique Garcia, all of Odessa; father, Thomas Garcia of Odessa; mother, Pabla Garcia of Pecos; brothers, Manuel Ulate Rivera, Rolando Ulate Lerma, both of Pecos, Luciano Lerma Jr. and Charles Ray Lerma, both of Odessa, and Rustu Ulate Lerma of Monahans; sisters, Elizabeth Wright, Mary Rodriguez and Dalila Lerma, all of Pecos, Anita Lerma and Delila Lerma Saldana, both of Odessa, Yolanda Melendez of Everson, Wash.; grandmother, Sostena Garcia; and grandchildren, Brooksy, Ignacio and Alice, all of Odessa. Hernandez Sr., 76, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, May 15, 1999, in a local hospital. He was born September 27, 1922, in Midland. He married Amparo "Polly" Gonzalez on October 20, 1951, in Las Cruces, N.M. They moved to Odessa in 1954 where he worked as an operator in pipeline construction. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved to watch boxing. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Amparo "Polly" Hernandez of Odessa; sons, Mariano G. Hernandez Jr. and Carlos Hemandez, both of Odessa; daughters, Maggie Hemandez and Lupe Garcia, both of Odessa, Alicia Vela of Arlington and Lynn Verona of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Pablo Chacon Jr. and Gomicindo Chacon, both of Fabens; sister, Dora Chacon of Reforma, D.B., Mexico; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. today, in the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Chavez as celebrant. Military graveside services will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Alice Glenn Mitchell RANKIN -- Alice Mitchell, 84, of Odessa, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at Avalon Nursing Home in Odessa after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Rankin Cemetery. Burial will be under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home. She was born on March 2, 1915, in New Castle. She married Johnny Delbert Glenn on March 12, 1938, in Breckenridge. He preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1972. She married W.W. Mitchell on Oct. 18, 1973, in Rankin. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1988. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Sullivan; brother, T.R. Sullivan; son-in-law, Robert Webb; and two great-grandchildren. A great many loved ones await her in Heaven. Survivors include her daughter Drenda Webb of Odessa; son, Jerry Glenn of New Caney; step sons, Rex Mitchell of San Angelo, Randy Mitchell of Albuquerque, N.M., Danny Mitchell of Goldthwaite and Lynn Mitchell of Odessa; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Addie "Granny" Brumfield EASTLAND -- Addie "Granny" Brumfield, age 96, of Eastland and formerly of Cross Plains and Odessa, died Sunday morning in Eastland Hospital. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. today in the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Garvin and Pastor Jonathan Gay officiating. Burial will follow in the Sabano Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland. Mrs. Brumfield was born March 10, 1903, to George and Florence Swarington Boen in Comanche. She moved to Fisher County, Texas, at an early age and married Andrew Clifton Henry. They farmed in Fisher County. She opened Addie's Cafe in Rotan and owned several cafes, of which her last business was the "Trolley Inn" cafe in Odessa. She married Sid Brumfield in Odessa and they kept more than 300 foster children in their home over the years. She moved to Cross Plains in 1972 and to Eastland in 1978. She was active in Baptist churches in each town. In Odessa, she taught the Dorcas Class and kept the nursery at Green Acres Baptist Church. In Cross Plains, she taught Senior Adult and Mission Friends at First Baptist. In Eastland, she was director of the WMU and was known as a prayer warrior. She could fit in with any age group and was loved by all who met her. Survivors include her daughter, Frances Thomas of Eastland; granddaughter-in-law, Janie Morgan of Abilene; great-granddaughter, Alisia Thomas of Eastland; and great-grandson, Daniel Morgan of Eastland. Memorials may be made to the WMU at Bethel Baptist Church in Eastland. _________________________________________________________________ MIDLAND -- E.B. Pruitt, 77, of Midland died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1922, in Freestone County, Texas, where he was raised and educated. He was transferred to Midland in 1960 with Texaco and retired from Texaco in 1978. He was an active member of Crestview Baptist Church and Texaco Retirement Club. Survivors include his wife, Dessie Pruitt of Midland; a sister, Pug Horton of Fairfield, Texas; a son, Donnie Pruitt and his wife, Linda, of Midland; two daughters, Becky Childers of Colorado and Cherry Head and her husband, Ira, of Mississippi; five grandchildren, Carrie Childers and Kim Smarr, both of Colorado, Marcy Neatherlin and Shauna Pruitt, both of Midland, and Benjamin Head of Mississippi; and three great-grandchildren, Justin Childers and Madyson Smarr, both of Colorado, and Baily Neatherlin of Midland. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Ashlock of Crestview Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Paul Neatherlin, Ira Head, Bob Cox, Ken Marks, Danny Skaggs and Gary Pruitt. Honorary pallbearers are members of his Sunday school class. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund, 3300 Thomas, Midland 79703. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Mickey Patton, 58, of Odessa, passed away Friday, May 14, 1999, in a local hospital. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1959 and had been a lifelong Odessa resident. She married Barney Keith Patton on January 15, 1960, in Odessa. She had worked for Nelson Pharmacy for 21 years and was the co-owner of Lady Petite from 1984 to 1991. For the last six years she had worked for Dunlaps. She had been a longtime, active member of the First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her father, E.J. Holdridge in 1995. Mickey was a very special person to all who knew her. She was always there to help others in their time of need and would always touch their hearts with her loving spirit and smile. She treasured her family and loved to be around them, no matter how many were there. She is survived by her husband, Keith Patton of Odessa; son, Alan M. Patton of Odessa; daughter, Nancy Boucher and husband Kenny of Odessa; mother, Nancy Flora Holdridge of Odessa; three brothers, Rob L. Holdridge and wife Bennetta of Hobbs, N.M., John E. Holdridge, and Roy Dale Holdridge and wife Maxine, both of Odessa; two sisters, Joann Smith and husband Sammie, both of Odessa, and Dorthy Lemke and husband Clemens of Stafford, Va.; two grandchildren, Brandon Lee Boucher and Brady Wade Boucher; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services were Monday at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel Inc. She was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Eastland County. She married Lee Morgenthaler Nov. 9, 1946, in Odessa. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1986. She was a Baptist and a 44-year resident of Kermit.
