June 04, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- James LaRoque McKelvy, 21, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at his residence. He was born March 11, 1978, in Andrews. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 1999, at First United Methodist Church, 401 N. Lee Ave., with the Rev. Donny Williams officiating. James was a member of First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Permian High School in 1996. While at Permian, James was very active in speech and debate and also in youth government, serving as senator and speaker. He was very excited to be honored at a luncheon by the mayor of Odessa and Gov. George W. Bush for his efforts in youth government. He attended Odessa College and was to attend Texas A&M University in the fall. He loved music, especially the Beatles, Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen and Merle Haggard, and he loved to play golf. James was a very classy young man with a very quick wit. He had many longtime friends that meant the world to him. He loved his family, friends and especially his grandparents. James had very high standards for himself and others. James is survived by his parents, Beckye and Keith McKelvy of Odessa; grandparents, Pat and Hubert McKelvy of Brackettville, Joyce Stacey of Baton Rouge, La., and Ruby and Jim LaRoque; three sisters and their husbands, Kelly and Stacy Mayfield of Giddings, Kassy and Justin Behrens of Giddings and Summer Barnes of Odessa; two brothers, Dustin McKelvy of Tulsa, Okla., and Brian and wife, Misty Holloway of Odessa; two nephews, Hunter Mayfield and Justin Holloway; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers will be Justin Johns, Kirk Plynell, Marcus Pennington, Sammy Gonzales, Ben Dixon and Justin Anderson. His many friends will serve as honorary pallbearers. Funeral arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ MIDLAND -- Services for Oneada Buchanan Mitchell are scheduled at 4 p.m. Friday, June 4, 1999, at the Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Frazier of Valley View Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home. Oneada Buchanan Mitchell was born Jan. 26, 1917, in Denton County to James and Martha Robertson. She married Raymond Buchanan in 1933 in Midland. Mr. Buchanan passed away in 1952. She later married Rad Mitchell in April 1960 in Odessa. He also preceded her in death in 1983. Mrs. Mitchell was a beauty operator in her own shop for years. She retired in 1958. She was a member of Cotton Flat Baptist Church, Women's Missionary Union, Eastern Star and a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa. She is survived by one son, Jesse Buchanan of Midland; one daughter, Doris Swinney of Odessa; one brother, Billy Robertson of Midland; one sister, Ora Lankford of Midland; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
