June 10, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Don went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 1999. He was born in Merkel on Sept. 13, 1927. He grew up in Merkel and Stamford. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star. He married Neva Bishop on Aug. 27, 1952. He owned and operated businesses in Merkel and Stamford, and then moved to Pecos where he was a partner of Gibson's Discount Center from 1965 to 1979. He served as a city councilman from 1974 to 1976. He then retired and moved to Odessa in 1983, where he had resided until his death. He is survived by his loving wife, Neva; one daughter, Dianne Hesseltine and husband, Len, of Spring; two sons, Steve Doan and wife, Rhonda, of Odessa and Kevin Doan and wife, Kim, of Midland. He had six grandchildren, Ashley Hesseltine, Tatum and Tyler Doan, Kyle, Kendal and Kalen Doan; one sister, Sis Chenault of Pecos; a brother, Billy D. Doan of Merkel; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999 at Frank Wilson Funeral Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be in Merkel at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Omer Bishop, his brother-in-law, and Rev. Weeks Dubose will preside over the services. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Mission Odessa. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Eva Olivas, 59, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Francis Frey officiating. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. She was born in Presidio. SURVIVORS: Husband, Manuel Olivas of Odessa; sons, John R. Olivas, Roy Olivas, Manuel R. Olivas III, Ramon R. Olivas, Reggie Olivas, Randy Olivas and Ronnie Olivas, all of Odessa; daughters, Lisa Olivas, Rosalva Olivas and Rosanna Olivas, all of Odessa; brothers, Manuel Calderon, Ramon Calderon and Abelardo Calderon, all of Dallas; sisters, Aurora Villegas and Maria Prieto, both of Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright © 1999 Odessa American.
