June 12, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Gaie Marie Stone Babcock, 93, of Odessa, died Thursday, May 10, 1999, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born October 5, 1905, in Thurmond, W.Va., the eldest of six children of Walter and Media Stone. She grew up in Kitchen and Chapmanville, W.Va. She married John Alfred Babcock on April 21, 1935, in Homer, N.Y. They had one child, Linda Ellen Babcock Sorber, and she had a daughter by a previous marriage, Helen Louise lrby, who preceded her in death in 1984. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Charles A. Sorber; sisters, Evelyn Sprecken and Mary Shealy; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. She will be buried in Fredericktown, Ohio, in private services. If desired, Memorial contributions may be made to The University of Texas Permian Basin Library or the charity of your choice.
