June 18, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Garlen Edward Clark, 71, of Odessa, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, in San Angelo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crescent Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. He was born April 29, 1928, in Mission. Survivors include: Wife, Bettie Clark of Odessa; son, Ed Clark of Odessa; daughters, Dorinda D. Atkins of Atkins, Va., and Mechele Howard of Houston; brother, T.J. Clark of Tecumshe, Okla.; sister, Ester L. Boykin of Vacaville, Calif.; granddaughters, Traci Atkins of Wise, Va., Leiann Atkins of Atkins, Va., and Lela K. Howard of Houston; grandsons, Andy Atkins and Chris Atkins, both of Atkins, Va. Pallbearers will be: Carl Tyler, T. Brajeal, Gene Bruno, Tom Marshall, Jim Moore, Don Perrin. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dumps Williams, Malcom Mount, D.C. Murphy, Bill Person, Bob Ridgeway, Doug Smith. Viewing will be today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive relatives and friends today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mr. Clark will lie in state Saturday at Crescent Park Baptist Church, 3002 E. University Blvd., at 8:30 a.m. until service time. _________________________________________________________________ LEANDER -- Mark Mathis, 56, of Leander, passed away Thursday, June 17, 1999, at his residence. Mr. Mathis was born on January 15, 1943, to Jesse M. Mathis and Violet Grabowsky in Dallas. He graduated from Water Valley High School after which he served in the United States Army. He was a licensed pastor with the United Pentecostal Church. He was pastor of the Iraan UPC from (1987-1990), assistant pastor of the Monahans UPC from (1990-1991), pastor of Old Paths Pentecostal church in Odessa from (1992-1995). Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife, Ann Mathis of Leander; son, Larry Marshall and his wife Sandy of Leander; daughters, Mandy Duran and her husband, Rick of Cedar Park and Cindy Marshall of Austin; grandsons, Michael Duran, Malachi Duran and Jacob Duran all of Cedar Park; granddaughter, Tiffany Marshall of Leander; brother, Don Mathis of Granite Shoals; mother, Violet Mathis of Austin; and nieces, Donna Joe and Dottis Jean. Services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Pentecostal Church followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. There will be viewing before service time in the church chapel. Arrangements by Beck Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.
