July 4, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Mary Magdalena Valdes, 91, died July 2, 1999, at her residence in Odessa. A rosary will be given at 7:30 p.m., July 4, 1999, at the Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home. She was born May 25, 1908, in Asturias, Spain. She worked as a seamstress. She was Catholic. Survivors: Daughter, Margaret Gifford and husband Fred of Odessa; five grandchildren, Henry Gifford, Mabel Chamorro, Brenda Gifford, William Gifford and Susy Cleveland; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Opal Mae Jones KERMIT -- Opal Mae Jones, 82, died Thursday, July 1, 1999 at her residence in Kermit. A service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 5, 1999, at the Belvue Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Braswell officiating. Burial will be at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel, Inc. She was born March 16, 1917, in O'Donnell. She married Clovis Odell Jones March 30, 1941, in Seminole, Texas. He preceded her in death January 30, 1979. She was a member of Belvue Baptist Church and a resident of Kermit for 52 years. She worked in the family business for 20 years. She served as Justice of the Peace for a term, worked in defense during WWII and was a member of Eastern Star. Her sister Gertrude Brandon preceded her in death.
