July 09, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ PECOS -- Services for Pablo Bustamante Garcia, 90, of Pecos are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pecos with John Swanson officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Toyah Cemetery. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home in Pecos. Mr. Garcia died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at Reeves County Hospital. He was born March 2, 1909, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Atanacio and Simona Garcia. Mr. Garcia was a Pecos Ward member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he had served on the branch presidency from 1966-1969, and in the Bishopric from 1969-1973 and from 1988-January 1998. He also served as a Bishop from 1973-1978. Mr. Garcia served in the Army during World War II in the Burma-India Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1945. He was a Technician Fourth Grade Sergeant for the Grade Company A 209th Engineer Combat Battalion. He received six medals, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal and the distinguished Unit Emblem World War II Victory Medal. After the war, he worked and retired from the railroad and also retired from Grace Co. in Pecos, where he was employed by Billie Sol Estes. After retirement, he worked as a custodian for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints until a hip fracture in 1997 at the age of 88. Survivors include two daughters, Petra Lara of Pecos and Ramona Chavez and her husband, Savas, of Holland, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
