July 24, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Drew Adcock, 36, of Austin, a pipefitter, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at South Austin Medical Center in Austin. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jonathan Jarrett officiating. He was born Jan. 3, 1963, in Mansfield, La. He was a longtime resident of Odessa. Survivors include his mother, Marcie Adcock of Austin; father, Ronald Adcock of Odessa; sons, Austin Wade and William Aaron Wade, both of Odessa; and brother, Dodd Adcock of Lockhart. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Inc. _________________________________________________________________ Roger Allen Giba ODESSA -- Roger Allen Giba, 56, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, July 22, 1999, at his home. He was born in Hammond, Ind., April 4, 1943. He served in the United States Marine Corps for six years. He also served in Vietnam. He married Peggy Diane Allen Jan. 28, 1967, and made a beautiful home and life for them and their three children. He was employed by Amoco for 28 years until his retirement four years ago. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Latter Rain Worship Center with Gary Albe officiating. He will be put to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens immediately following the services. He is survived by his loving wife and friend of 32 years, Peggy Diane Giba of Odessa; two sons, Darrell Allen Giba and Roger Bryan Giba, both of Odessa; a daughter, Tonya Michelle Giba of Odessa; five wonderful grandchildren, Travis, Terry, Christen and their mother Emma Giba, all of Odessa, and Tanner, Nikki and their mother, Tonya Giba, of Alabama; a stepfather, J.H. Childress of Odessa; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Milton and Jean Allen of Odessa; brother-in-law Don Allen and his wife, Viki, of Odessa; sister-in-law Pam Alexander and her husband, J.D., of Odessa; a number of nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins and just close friends. You fought the good fight. You finished the race and you won. You fought this battle the way the Lord told you to, and he answered your prayers and he healed you. Your rewards in heaven are so great for the strength and courage that you had for your family. You've brought us all through hard times and now you're standing before the throne getting your reward for the accomplishments that you had on this earth. We miss you and we love you, but we know that one day you will meet us at the gates of heaven with your arms opened wide to take us to the mansion that you went ahead and prepared for us. If you would like to see the family, they will be at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday for visitation. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Harold Lorell Pollard ODESSA -- Harold was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Johnson County. At the time he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, his parents, James Onan and Hessie Margaret Browning Pollard lived in Wellington, where he attended school. He married Jessie Louise Hays in October 1944. He served 3 1/2 years in the U.S. Navy, having been assigned to the USS Pathfinder for 2 1/2 years and assigned to the USS LeHardy for six months. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on Oct. 12, 1945. Harold worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. in Ector County for 30 years from 1945 to 1975. He is Methodist. Harold is survived by his wife, Jessie Hays Pollard; children and grandchildren, James Hays Pollard of Odessa, Barbara Pollard Hammond of Colorado City, Marilyn and Michael Pollard of Midland, Lori, Russell and Bryce Alan Vahrenkamp of Houston, Lori's mother, Glenda Fore Wentworth and her husband, Jim, of Kenai, Alaska, Tara Toliver of College Station, Cade Hammond of Waco and Kyle Hammond of Colorado City. He is also survived by his sister, Jo Beth Calvert of Long Beach, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Martha Pollard of Odessa, Myra and Larlu Hays of Wellington, and Mary Thornton of Pueblo, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Dorance Biter of Wichita Falls; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a family gathering to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Wellington under the direction of Adams Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Fairview Cemetery in Wellington. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.
