July 31, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Maryellen Lorton ODESSA -- Maryellen Lorton, 76, of Odessa, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at her residence. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Entombment will be at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif. She was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Lincoln, Neb. She married Robert Lorton April 4, 1944, in Lincoln, Neb. Mrs. Lorton moved to Odessa in 1995 from San Diego. In 1953 she was the first woman commander of American Legion Post #3 in Lincoln, Neb. She was a member of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif., the V.F.W., the Eastern Star, Job Daughters and the Chamber of Commerce. She served in the U.S. Navy Waves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lorton. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Lorton Meisinger and her husband, Phil, of Odessa; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
