August 02, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Hazel Murray ODESSA -- Hazel Murray, 78, of Odessa passed away Friday, July 30, 1999, at a local hospital. She was born July 30, 1921, in Ennis. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Griffin Jones of Temple Baptist Church will officiate. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Hazel married her husband of 59 years, Clarence Murray, Nov. 30, 1940, in Cherokee County. They moved to Odessa in 1945. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Odessa. She was a homemaker and a very good cook. She worked for Ector County Independent School District and cooked for several different schools. She liked to work in her garden. She also raised her two nephews, Charlie and Buddy Burns. She is survived by her husband, Clarence Murray of Odessa; two sons, David Murray and his wife, Pam, and Gary Murray and his wife, Patsy, all of Odessa; two nephews, Charlie Burns and Buddy Burns, both of Odessa; one granddaughter, Melissa Murray of College Station; one grandson, Bryan Murray of Odessa; and two grandnieces, Amanda Burns and Sarah Burns, both of Odessa. Wall St., Midland, Texas, 79701. _________________________________________________________________ Maria Riojas ODESSA -- Maria Riojas, 62, passed away July 30, 1999, at her residence in Odessa. She was born November 13, 1936, in Mexico. She was a homemaker and member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Martin Vargas of Odessa; sons, Tony Baiza Jr. of Andrews, Oscar Baiza of Odessa, Sammy Baiza and Severiano Baiza, both of Hobbs, N.M., Benny Baiza of Midland, Joe Vargas and Michael Vargas, both of Odessa; daughters, Patricia Baiza, Esmaralda Tiner and Melinda Vargas, all of Odessa; brothers, Eliseo Riojas of Port Arthur, Joe Luis Riojas of Houston; sisters, Lidia Alvarez of Midland, Encarnacion Baiza of Fort Stockton, Irene Rodriguez of Midland, Margaret Saguaro of Odessa, Oralia Perez, Amelia Rocha, both of Hereford; 36 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers. _________________________________________________________________ Henry J. Teague ODESSA -- Henry J. Teague, 87, of Odessa died Friday, July 30, 1999. Services will be at 10 am. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Masonic burial will be at Odessa Cemetery. He was born Aug. 13, 1911, to Icie Byrd and William Middleton Teague of Kingston, Okla. His beloved stepfather was Arthur Wilkins, originally from Illinois, who settled in Kingston, Okla. He was preceded in death by Ruth Cody Teague, daughter of H.D. Cody of an early West Texas pioneer family that dates their presence in Odessa to before the turn of the 20th Century. His wife of 40 years, Ruth, was both a tremendous partner and a primary reason for Henry's great success in the business world. He was also preceded in death by one sister and three half-brothers. Henry Teague was a real oil man from the beginning. After attending the University of Texas at Austin, he worked first for Humble Pipeline Co., then Halliburton Oilwell Services for 15 years. During that time he was district supervisor for New Mexico and Texas. In 1945, he and his brother-in-law, Gene Cody of Odessa, formed a new company, known as Cody & Teague Inc. From that point on, Cody & Teague Inc. became the premier hot oil, high-pressure pump, steam and transport trucking company in the Permian Basin. In 1972, he sold the business and retired. Henry was a master Mason, 33rd Shriner for more than 50 years. He served as vice president of his local Shriner lodge. Henry Teague is survived by his wife of 18 years, Margaret Teague; his son, Dr. William J. Teague and his wife, Byrd, both of Dallas; his daughter, Phyllis Stewart of Midland; and granddaughter, Dora "Dodie" Stewart of Atlanta, Ga. Other survivors include stepdaughter, Linda Howle and her husband, Charles; stepgranddaughter, Carla Howle Waychoff and her husband, John, and their two children, Ashley and Emily; and a stepgrandson, Craig Howle and his wife, Stephanie, and their son, Stratton, all of the Bedford-Burleson area. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ John Robert Scott ODESSA -- John Robert Scott, 52, of Odessa, a retired electric supervisor, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Antioch Christian Church with Don Fankhauser and Bill Poling Sr. officiating. Military burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton. He was born in San Angelo in 1947. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. He was a member of Antioch Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack M. Scott, and his sister, Billie Jane Piercy. He is survived by his wife, Linda Brice Scott of Odessa; mother, Frances Detlefs Scott of Odessa; daughters, Mychelle Woodard and Shauna Poling, both of Odessa; brother, Loren Charles Scott of Baton Rouge, La.; sister Wanda Joyce Scott of Odessa; granddaughters, Bryttanie Deitrick and Tamara Deitrick, both of Odessa; and grandson, Kramer Woodard of Odessa. Dave Cempbell, Jerry Burleson, Greg Pittman, Ronnie King, Casey Archer, Edmond Tillman and Lonnie Sissel will serve as pallbearers.
