August 13, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Lois Jagers Forbes passed away Aug. 11, 1999, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Steve Trout and Bill Heggemeier officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Lois was born Aug. 15, 1913, in La Tuna. Her parents, Louis Turner Jagers & Nora Lou Coates, were early pioneers in West Texas and New Mexico. West Texas has always been Lois' home. After graduating from high school in Big Lake, she attended Sul Ross State University and Texas Tech University. Her business career included banking and accounting and, for a short time, business manager of a dude ranch in New Mexico. In 1949, Lois had a part in the organization of Ector County Independent School District Credit Union. After a few years she became credit manager for ARCO Oil Co., retiring after 36 years of employment. On Aug. 4, 1950, Lois married Grady G. Forbes in Odessa. He preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1981. Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Professionally she was a member of the Atlantic Western Credit Union. Surviving family members include two sisters, Norine Bledsoe and Margaret Waldie, both of Odessa; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jagers of Tyler and Mildred Jagers of Mertzon; nephews, Phillip Wayne McCrury and his wife Elizabeth Ann, Larry Wade Waldie and his wife, Maureen, Bill Jagers and wife, Dee Ann, Larry Fern Wright and wife, Chrystal; nieces, Sally Ann Draper and Rae Laine Wright. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Jerry Hollis Gardiner ODESSA -- Jerry Hollis Gardiner, age 44, died at Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999. He was born Feb. 15, 1955, in Abilene. Family visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Ft. Phantom Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mr. Gardiner moved to Odessa in 1982 from Lubbock. He married Carol Lawson in Odessa in 1983. He was employed by Texas Industrial. Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvin and Thelma Jefferies, R.G. and Berta Gardiner, and step-father, James Cate. He is survived by his wife, Carol Gardiner of Odessa; parents, Grant Gardiner of Lubbock and Wanda Cate of Abilene; brothers, Grant Gardiner Jr. of Hamby, Terry Gardiner of Abilene; sister, Susan Campbell of Dallas; mother and father-in-law, Chuck and Vona Lawson of Odessa; five nieces; one nephew; aunt, Janell Cockrell of Abilene; great-aunt, Lane Parrott of San Angelo; and best friend, Bart Trotter of Fredericksburg. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Mary Jane Yeater Harris, 60, of Gardendale, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at her residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Life Unlimited Church, 4224 E. Loop 338, with the Rev. Don Palmer officiating. She was born Oct. 21, 1958, in Kermit. She was a member of Life Unlimited Church. Survivors include her husband, Melvin Harris Sr. of Gardendale; her sons, Melvin Harris Jr., Lee Harris and Dean Harris, all of Gardendale, and Steve Harris of Okemah, Okla.; sisters, Adalene Smart of San Angelo and Myrtle Spruill of Synder; and seven grandchildren.
