August 18, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Manuela Gomez Abila, 73 years of age, passed away on August 13, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born on September 29, 1925, in Barstow. Mrs. Abila was a member of St. Joseph's and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Lady's Altar Society, the Carmelites and the Crusillistas. Mrs. Abila was preceded in death by her son, Cepriano Abila, and her sister, Elauteria Salgado; and her parents, Demetrio and Catalina Gomez. She is survived by her husband, Antonio Abila of Odessa; sons, Felipe Abila and his wife, Maria, of Odessa, Paul Abila and his wife, Lydia, of Brownwood, Greg Abila and his wife, Annette, of San Antonio, Tony Abila Jr. and his wife, Lupe, of Odessa and Manuel Abila of Odessa; one daughter, Mary Abila Heredia and her husband, Manuel, of Odessa; brothers, George Gomez of Odessa, Epifanio Gomez of San Francisco, Calif.; sisters, Maria Salgado of Midland, Paulina Ojeda of Pecos and Cecilia Correra of Midland; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. A Rosary was said Saturday and Sunday at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Harold Diller, 87, of Odessa, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. He was born April 20, 1912, in Tahlequah, Okla. He married Margaret Watts in April 1949 in Kermit. Mr. Diller moved to Odessa in 1992 from Kermit. He was the retired owner of a retail lumber company. He was a Navy Seabee during World War II. He was a lifetime member and past master of Kermit Masonic Lodge #1258 and a member of Toyah Lodge #1077. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He was a member of the N.R.A. and past president of Kermit Chamber of Commerce in 1971 and 1972. He loved his grandchildren very much. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Diller of Odessa; son, Jim Diller of Kermit; daughter, Pat Evans of Odessa; brother, George Diller of Thatcher, Ariz.; sister, Hazel Maher of Kermit; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Inez Marie Hubbard (Mrs. Earl Hubbard), 79, of Odessa died Saturday, August 14, 1999, at her residence. She was born August 26, 1919, in Santa Anna. She moved to Odessa from San Antonio in 1945. She married Earl Hubbard June 14, 1948, in Coleman. She was a homemaker and member of Terrace Hills Baptist Church. Mrs. Hubbard loved her family above all else and showed that love in many ways. She had a witty personality for everyone that came close to her. If you had a short encounter with her, you would know her uniqueness. She was a loving great-granny and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, March 1, 1990; and two sons, Robert Earl and Jackie Glenn Hubbard. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Earlene and Bob Barnes, Maurice and Marcy Hubbard, Larry and Nancy Hubbard, Freddie Hubbard and Delores Stone, Milton and Marion Hubbard and Leslie and Glinda Hubbard, all of Odessa; sister, Geraldine Thompson of Marble Falls; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, August 16, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Danny Willis officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
