Crosby, son of Lee and Josie Crosby, passed away August 27, 1999, in an Odessa hospital. He was born December 26, 1928, in Paden, Okla. C. L. was an employee of Sharp Drilling Company and retired in April 1986. He had been a resident of Odessa since 1963 and was a member of Life Challenge Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Josie Crosby, his brother, H. D. Crosby; his son, Danny Crosby, 2 grandsons, Christopher Dean Crosby and Robbie Lee Crosby. C. L. is survived by his loving wife, Fern Crosby of Odessa; 4 daughters, Sharon Joyce Watts of Odessa, Sandra Crosby of Austin and Clara Arocha of Slaton; 3 sisters, Ida Vancleve of Henryetta, Okla., and Lavada Dionne of Paden, Okla.; and 12 grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 1999, in Life Challenge United Pentecostal Church, 5000 N. Grandview, with the Rev. Dan Smelltser officiating. Additional services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 1999, in Burnett Mission Church, Paden, Okla. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Paden, Okla., under the Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague, Okla. J. Sandell Jr. ODESSA -- A. J. Sandell, 80, of Odessa, died Thursday, August 26, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was born in Tuscola on May 1, 1919. He married Lessie Houston on June 6, 1940. Mr. Sandell served in Hawaii and Sai Pan during WWII as a Navy Seabee. He was a member of the V.F.W. He was a building contractor. He said, "If you're going to live in God's world, you have to leave your mark," and he certainly did by building many homes in Odessa and after his retirement he planted 100 trees on his property. Survivors include his wife, Lessie Sandell of Odessa; son, Billy J. Sandell of New Iberia, La.; daughters, Nancy Allman of Abilene, Sherry Scuepbach and husband Kenneth of Odessa; brother, Luther Sandell of Odessa; grandchildren, Stephen, Darren and David Allman, Chad Sandell and Matthew Scuepbach; and great-grandson, Michael John Allman. _________________________________________________________________ Top | Obituaries Index | Home _________________________________________________________________ Nichols082999.JPG (8482 bytes) Peggy Nichols On Friday, August 27, 1999, our Lord opened his arms wide and called Peggy Lee Nichols home to enter the gates of Heaven to be with Him. Mrs. Nichols was born May 11, 1934, in Cisco, Texas. She married Bobby Joe Nichols on November 10, 1950, in Lawton, Oklahoma. They moved from Albany, Texas, to Odessa in 1950 where they have remained as long time residents. Mrs. Nichols worked for Culligan Soft Water Company as an office manager from 1963 through 1975. She then worked as an Apartment Manager for several years. In her spare time as an Apartment Manager, Peggy began a hobby of decorating cakes. This hobby turned into a full-time catering business. For more than 10 years, Peggy decorated cakes for every occasion and catered hundreds of weddings until her retirement. Peggy loved to play bunko, canasta and forty-two with her many friends. She loved to travel, and Las Vegas and Branson were her favorite places to go. Peggy also loved to laugh. Many a day was spent laughing with her four sisters, her many friends and her family. Most of all, Peggy was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Ben Hudman. Peggy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Bobby Joe Nichols; a son, D. R Nichols; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Barbara Nichols; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Mike Clements, all of Odessa; six grandchildren, Summer Barnes, Mikey Nichols, Jacob Nichols, Elise Nichols, Candice Clements and Savannah Campbell; her mother, Erma Hudman of Robert Lee; four sisters, Nita Killion of Midland, Linda Cook of Andrews, Carolyn Rollison of New Market, Alabama, and Bennie Glover of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Public visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 1999, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday. August 30, 1999, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry. Thorpe officiating.
