September 01, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ MIDLAND -- Leona Marie Eggleston, 82, of Odessa, died Aug. 30, 1999, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Mount Vernon, to A.V. and Ivy Bruce Williams. She married Woodrow Eggleston on March 23, 1935, in Lamesa. Mrs. Eggleston grew up in Lamesa and after she married Woodrow, they lived a lot of places, as Woodrow's job required moving a lot. They retired to Hemphill on Toledo Bend Lake where they enjoyed fishing and the Piney Woods. Marie did not finish high school, as she was needed at home to help with her younger brothers and sisters and to help at the farm. She loved to do any kind of sewing, crocheting, knitting, painting and any kinds of crafts. She always had something in her hands while she was sitting. She kept her family supplied with her handmade crafts. She loved her family very much and always looked forward to family reunions. She accepted the Lord in February 1939. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Argyle Williams, Otho Lee Williams, Elvis Williams, Ferrill Williams; and sister, Gladys Phillips. She is survived by her husband, Woodrow Eggleston of Odessa; son, Ramon Eggleston of Houston; daughter, Patsy Fisher of Odessa; sisters, Lois Miers of Ventura, Calif., and Pauline McGee of Lamesa; brother, J.T. Williams of Odessa; grandchildren, Joe Fisher of Houston, Sheryl Baker and husband, Bert, of Austin, Christie Powell and husband, Matt, of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Brent Baker, Christopher Baker, Audrey Baker, Dane Powell and Victoria Powell. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ Edna Ruth Mayes Flanagan FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Edna Ruth Mayes Flanagan, widow of the late Joseph Loren Flanagan who preceded her in death in 1968, passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, in Odessa. She was born January 12, 1904, near Goshen, Ark. She was a retired bookkeeper for Hembree Oil Company and an active member of the Northwest Arkansas Archaeological Society of which she held the position of treasurer. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Ark. Interment will be at Son's Chapel in Fayetteville, Ark. Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors and Moore's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville, Ark. She attended the University of Arkansas and was a school teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Robert J. Mayes; and two brothers, Walter Mayes and Randall Mayes. She is survived by a son, Bill Flanagan and his wife, Barbara Jaquish, of Fayetteville, Ark; two daughters, Joan Flynn of Odessa and Joyce and Bill Emery of Tulsa, Okla; grandchildren, Michelle Hungerford, Tom Flynn, Kathleen Schoon, Christi Flynn, Jody Whisett, Jane Sneeden and Lisa Ziegler; great-grandchildren, Eric Paul Hungerford, Katie Hungerford, Jackie Whisett, Thomas Whisett, Jack Robin, Jack Robin Sneeden IV, Joanna Ruth Sneeden, Beverly Ziegler, Paul Joseph Ziegler and Alana Joanna Ziegler. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Bruce Franklin McVey, 69, was born Nov. 16, 1929 to Earl and Pearl McVey. He left this life Aug. 30, 1999, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bruce was a member of 6th & Jackson Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Betty Herricks McVey; his parents; and his brother, Roger. He is survived by four children, Randall Bruce McVey & wife, Jewan, of Odessa, Steven Ray McVey and wife, Margie, of Round Rock, Malissa McVey Self and husband, Mike, of Odessa, and Robert Clint McVey of Dallas; also by seven grandchildren: Lindsey, Brittany, Courtney, Amanda, Jason, Corey and Cade. Bruce graduated from Hobbs High School in 1948. He was called to duty and proudly served the Navy during the Korean War. He had resided in Odessa since 1971 where he worked in the oil field trucking industry at West Texas Trucks. Bruce will be remembered by many friends and family for his generosity, gentleness and love of family. Any memorials should be made to Vista Hospice of Odessa. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at 6th & Jackson Church of Christ with Roy Smalling and Don Turskey officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ MONAHANS -- Alta Faye Stanford, 73, of Monahans, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at her residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Fankhauser and David Lively officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial Cemetery. She was born Oct. 3, 1925, in Zephyr. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a member of Rebecca Lodge and Women's Auxiliary at Medical Center Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, and her daughter, Karen Brown, in 1983. She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Mallow, Tommy Mallow and Fred Stanford, all of Odessa, Bill Stanford of Marina, Calif., and Bobby Stanford of Dallas; daughters, Frances Ford of Odessa and June Neves of Monahans; brother, Jack Beasley of Midland; sisters, Wilma Nell Ford of Midland and Evelyn Peden of Tulsa, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Reba Hyde Watkins ODESSA -- Reba Hyde Watkins was born in Franklin County, January 24, 1929, to William Oliver Hyde and Martha Reeves. She moved to Odessa in 1935 and graduated from Odessa High School in 1948. She married Howell A. Watkins March 22, 1950. They served in the United Methodist Church in the Texas and Northwest Texas Conferences from 1952 to 1973. They moved to Midland in 1973 and was employed as managers of the Midland College Bookstore for three years. Mrs. Watkins then worked in the oil industry until she retired in 1990. Mrs. Watkins died at her home at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, following a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and one grandson. She is survived by her husband, Howell of Midland; son, David of Midland; stepson, Ron of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers, Ray of Rosenberg and Gerald of Midland; three stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jarrell Sharp officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Youngblood was a resident of El Paso for three years and a former resident of Winkler County for 60 years. He retired in 1984, after 38 years as a field superintendent with Shell Oil Company. Mr. Youngblood was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater. He was an all state football player at Wink High School, where he was recently nominated for Player of the Century of West Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, J.L. Youngblood and Faye McLendon Youngblood; and brother, Marvin Youngblood. Mr. Youngblood is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kristina Cooper Youngblood; sons, Terry Lee Youngblood and his wife of 36 years, Linda, Phillip E. Youngblood and his wife of 32 years, Janie; four grandchildren, Shane, Kristin, Melissa and Shelly; and 8 great-grandchildren.
