September 25, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Duey Braswell ANDREWS -- Funeral services for Duey Braswell, 82, of Andrews, will be at 2 p.m. today at Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews with the Rev. Jim Terry officiating. Burial will be in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. He died Thursday, September 23, 1999, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1917, in Roswell, N.M. He moved to Andrews in 1934 and lived here for most of his life. He worked for Mrs. Carl Betenbough at the Andrews Telephone Company. He worked for two years on the Scarborough "Five Wells" Ranch in Andrews. He then went to work for Humble Production Company in 1940. He married Lucille Walden in July 1941. She died in 1943. He served during World War II in the Navy. He came back to Andrews and resumed his work for Humble. He was transferred to Humble Pipe Line and started working as a Station Oilier. He worked for Humble, which later became Exxon Pipe Line Company, from 1940 to 1978. He married Sue Burkett on Sept. 26, 1947, in Roswell, N.M. He served on the Andrews City Council from 1959 to 1963. He was a charter member of the Goldsmith Masonic Lodge. He was the first Master Mason of that lodge. He was a 32-degree Mason and had received his 60-year pin in 1999. He was a member of the Andrews Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of the Andrews Mesquite Burners. He was the Little Thorn in 1979 and Big Thorn in 1980 in the Mesquite Burners. He received his lifetime membership in 1992 from the Mesquite Burners. He was a lifetime member of the Andrews Chamber Of Commerce. He received the Andrews Chamber Of Commerce Community Service Award in 1982. He was recognized for the Outstanding Membership and Banquet Ticket Sales for the Andrews Chamber Of Commerce. He was elected and worked for the Andrews Constable Office for Andrews County from 1978 until his death. He was a member of the Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews. He was an honorary member of the Board of Stewards of Means Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sue Braswell of Andrews; two daughters, Karen Gallagher of San Jose, Calif., and Beverly Braswell of Odessa; two grandsons, Matt Jenkins and Mark Jenkins, both of San Jose, Calif.
