September 30, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ LITTLEFIELD -- Katherine M. Dyer-Holmes, 85, of Littlefield, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Irvin Street First Baptist Church, where she was a charter member for 46 years, with the Rev. V.L. Witherspoon officiating. She was born Aug. 18, 1914, to Mabel Ownes Douglas in Clarksville. She married James M. Holmes Dec. 23, 1933. He preceded her in death along with her three children. She enjoyed attending church services in all the Odessa churches and made many friends. She leaves to mourn her grandchildren, Mary Ellis, Shebra Lee and Janice Brewster, all of Odessa, and James M. Johnson of Midland; two sisters, Doretha Christian of Odessa and Eula B. James of Littlefield; one brother, Willie James Douglas of Odessa; 14 other grandchildren in various cities; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives. _________________________________________________________________ Mary Leora Kincheloe ODESSA -- Mary Leora Kincheloe, 65, of Colorado City, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Eisenhower Church of Christ with Burt Groves officiating, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Balzen, and son, Glen Kincheloe. She was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Medina, and lived in Odessa 40 years before moving to Colorado City. She retired as manager of Tide Air. She married Ray Kincheloe April 13, 1952, in Hamilton. Survivors include her husband, Ray Kincheloe of Colorado City; mother, Mary Balzen of Hamilton; daughter, Linda Barton and her husband, Joe Jr., of Lubbock; son, Daryl Kincheloe and his wife, JoAnn, of Odessa; brothers, Eddie Balzen of Gatesville, Archie Balzen of Cisco and Kenneth Balzen of Hamilton; sisters, Ruby Young of Quinlan, Christina Fischer of Childress, Peggy Morgeson of Academy and Lily Hudson of Hamilton; six grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons, James Dunlap, Larry Dunlap, Jerry Dunlap, Tommy Kincheloe, David Kincheloe and Stephen Kincheloe. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Scott Lee Crutchfield AUSTIN -- Scott Lee Crutchfield, 28, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, following a brave fight against a brain tumor. He is survived by his wife, Alexandra Crutchfield, and his infant son, Adam Wesley Crutchfield, both of Austin; parents, Charles and Karen Crutchfield of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Melissa Crutchfield of Dallas; grandmothers, Ruth Jenkins of Concord, N.C., and Benja Lee Crutchfield of Albuquerque, N.M. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at University United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Charles Merrill officiating. Scott was born in Ruidoso, N.M., and lived with his family in Odessa, Hobbs, N.M., Carlsbad, N.M., and El Paso. He was a graduate of Permian High School and was a National Merit Scholar and active in the band. He attended the 1987 Texas Governor's School and the Research Science Institute in Washington, D.C. After completing his bachelor of science in engineering at Duke University in 1993, he earned a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. He worked for Motorola's M Core division until his time of death. Scott loved his family, his church and his many friends. He and Alexandra Lynn Maynard met at Duke University and were married July 31, 1993, in Greensboro, N.C. Active in the United Methodist Church his entire life, he was involved in the Wesley Fellowship at Duke. At University United Methodist Church he was a member of the choir, the Odyssey Class and Disciple Bible study. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, travel and foreign languages and was an avid fan of Duke basketball.
