November 10, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Tomasita G. Flores was born March 7, 1924, in Fort Stockton to Vicente and Valentina Galindo. She passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She married Charles Flores in 1941 in Fort Stockton. She was preceded in death by her husband, father and mother. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Fidelo Lugo officiating. A rosary will be said today and Thursday at 7 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Flores was a homemaker. Survivors include her sons, Carlos Flores of Abilene, Manuel Flores, Ramon Flores, Nick Flores and Joe Flores, all of Odessa; her daughters, Rosa Quiroz of Edinburg, Lupe Barrerez of Georgia, Joann Flores, Sandy Flores and Janette Villanueva, all of Odessa; one sister, Angelita Huertas of Odessa; 30 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bobby Flores, Charles Flores, Nick Flores, Jesse Acosta, Jaime Acosta and Joel Flores. Services entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Lawrence Henry Hahn MIDLAND -- Lawrence Henry Hahn, 73, passed away November 8, 1999, in Midland. He provided great strength and guidance to his family and friends, and his presence will be strongly missed. Born July 21, 1926, in Borger, he attended Wink High School and Texas A&M University. He served in the Air Force during World War II and upon return, graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of arts degree in history. Lawrence was a member of the Silver Keys Fraternity at Texas Tech and was the first member of his family to graduate from college. In 1952, he attended the University of Texas School of Law and later married Peggy Sue Jones of Monahans, Texas, in 1953. Soon after, he joined Humble Oil and Refining Company (predecessor to Exxon Corporation) as a Certified Public Landman for 20 years. Lawrence retired from Exxon in 1975 to pursue his interests in oil and gas and real estate development. In addition to being founder and president of Inland Resources, Inc. and X-L Energy Company, he founded Petroplex Savings and Loan. He served on the Board of Directors of Midland American Bank, which he had purchased and moved from a trailer house on the Loop Road to its downtown location. He was responsible for several local real estate developments, including the Skaggs Albertson Retail Center on Andrews Highway. In the early 1990s, he served as general manager of the W.D. Johnson Slash Ranch. He enjoyed raising horses as his primary past time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva R. and William Lawrence Hahn of Monahans; and by his sisters, Luella Wiley and Pauline Gentry. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Sue Jones Hahn of Midland; his children and their spouses, Cygne and David Nemir of El Paso, Leslie Hahn of Midland and Lori and Charfie Vetters of San Antonio; his nephew, Leonard Milton Jones and his wife, Laurra of Houston; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Audra Nemir of El Paso; his sisters, Elvina Myers of Albuquerque, N.M., Joyce Hahn of Monahans; his brother, Charles Hahn of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lawrence was a good and loving husband and father for 46 years. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Anthony Sullivan, Craig Atchison, Chuck Standley, Skeet Jones, Mike McKenzey and Art Oestmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Rocky King and Ralph Hammond. The family request memorials be directed to a charity of one's choice or to the American Heart Association, 3525 Andrews Highway, State 111, Midland, Texas, 79703. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Red McCrury Jr., 74, of Odessa, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his residence. He was born March 13, 1925, in Bogata. He married Wanda Puckett Sept. 30, 1946, in Garland. Mr. McCrury served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He lived in Odessa 29 years and was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church. He loved to fish and work with his hands. He loved to talk and tell stories and to fix things. If you left anything at his home, he would paint it red. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Goneva McCrury, in 1950; his parents, two sisters and a grandchild. Mr. McCrury is survived by his wife, Wanda McCrury of Odessa; sons, Michael Wayne McCrury, Terry McCrury and wife Kim, and Tommy Dale McCrury and wife Cheryl, all of Odessa; daughters, Margie Martinez and husband Jesse of Wills Point, Susan McCrury, Kaye Scott and husband Gerald of Odessa, Donna Crumpton and husband Evan of Odessa; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry McCrury of Lexington and Dalton McCrury of Somerset; sisters, Patsy Jumper of Andrews, Celestine Rupard of Garland, Maxine Johnson of Carlsbad, N.M., and Allene Brumley of Centerville. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jess Little officiating. Interment will follow at Andrews Cemetery. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. He was born March 28, 1915, in Detroit, Texas. He married Ella Mae Blue in November 1940, in Lovington, N.M. Mr. Yates moved to Odessa in 1934 from Lovington. He owned and managed Jake Yates Salvage Yard. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife Ella in 1994. Survivors include his daughter, Stella Birchfield of Houston; son, Steve Yates of Houston; two grandchildren, Paula Birchfield and Dewayne Birchfield, both of Houston; one great-grandchild, Justin Birchfield of Houston. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Irma Reed ODESSA -- Irma Reed, 93, of Dallas, formerly of North Little Rock, Ark., passed away October 16, 1999, at a local hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1906, in Marshfield, Mo. Mrs. Reed retired from Arkansas Baptist Hospital in 1971 after several years of service. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Levy for a number of years. Mrs. Reed was an 85-year resident of Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Joe J. Reed; her son, Joe J. Reed, Jr.; brother, John Blazor; and her parents, S.A. and Florence Blazor. Mrs. Reed is survived by her sons, Charles Reed and wife Dixie and Ronnie Reed, all of Dallas; her daughter Linda Hensley and husband Malcolm of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
