November 16, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Helen Huff was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Coleman County, to Henry Weddle and Alice McDonald Weddle. She passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Odessa. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at the Sunset Chapel with Chaplain Rob Minor of Vista Care Hospice officiating. The burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Helen married E.J. "Bill" Huff July 16, 1938, in Ward County. He preceded her in death in 1980. She had been a resident of Odessa since 1949. Helen retired from the Midland International Airport, where she had worked in various positions including the ticket booth in the parking area. She enjoyed crafts and especially dolls. She made dolls and also restored antique dolls. Survivors include her three daughters, Louise Shelton and her husband, Robert, of Odessa, Jane Griffith of San Angelo and Linda Huff Russell of Austin; two sons, Cecil Huff and his wife, Pam, of Red Rock and Charles Huff and his wife, Jeannie, of Auburn, Calif.; two sisters, Margaret Cloud of Haltom City and Gladys Huff of Hobbs, N.M.; three brothers, John Henry Weddle of Artesia, Calif., T.W. Weddle of Hobbs, N.M., and Earl Weddle of Eunice, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Mary Florine Crow went to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Flo, as she was known by friends, was born March 11, 1926, in Berwyn, Okla., to Don and Corinne Gilliam. She is survived by her husband, W.C. Crow of Odessa; sisters, Winnie Jones of Red Oak and Margaret Vann of Odessa; brothers, J.O. Gilliam of Glennpool, Okla., and Les Gilliam of Ponca City, Okla.; daughters, Rita Spriggs and husband Dennis of Cedar Hill, Donna Dunn and husband David of Odessa; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who loved their Mam Maw dearly. She was also loved by a large number of nieces and nephews who remember her as Aunt Flo. She was married to W.C. July 22, 1944, in Ardmore, Okla. They settled in Odessa in 1954. She retired from the Ector County Independent School District in 1983. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Dean of Athens officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Delbert L. "Deb" Sweatt, 67, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at his residence after a battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Mr. Sweatt was born July 12, 1932, in Westbrook. He moved to Odessa in 1942 and had worked for Texas Electric Service Company from 1951 to 1981 and was the president and owner of Sentry Services from 1975 to 1999. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Sweatt, and his mother, Mildred Gibson. He is survived by his companion, Patty Klein of Odessa; two sons, Melvin Lee Sweatt and his wife, Susan, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Dennis Lynn Sweatt and his wife, Kathy, of Odessa; one stepdaughter, Carla Malone and her husband, Mark, of Odessa; one sister, Billye Simons and her husband, Melvin, of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Mitchell Sweatt and Marshall Sweatt of Grand Junction, Colo.; four stepgrandchildren, Anthony Malone, Sharina Malone and Megan Mobley, all of Odessa, and Justin Boroff of Austin. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Opal Walton ODESSA -- Opal Walton, 84, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at an Odessa nursing home. She was born March 31, 1915, in Collin County. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Dr. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Opal married Lee Walton May 2, 1933, in Roscoe. They moved to Odessa in 1945 from Sweetwater. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and loved to be involved there. She also loved to sew. She worked for West Side Upholstery for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Walton in 1997; and a brother, Dean Carman in 1992. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Inman of Alamogordo, N.M., and Glenda Heath of Odessa; two sisters, Buna Collier of Odessa and Alene Monday of Odessa; one brother, Hollis Carman of Palestine; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Stan Heath, Randal Heath, Gary Heath, Van Inman, Fred Collier and Don Collier. Arrangements by Frank W.
