November 21, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Kay was born on June 2, 1937, in Enid, Okla., to Harvey and Louise Ellison. She went to be with her Lord on November 19, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, November 22, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Dr. Ernest Easley of First Baptist Church officiating. Brother Robert Barry will be in charge of music. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Kay moved to Odessa at an early age. She graduated from O.H.S. and attended Odessa College. She was very active in the singles class at First Baptist and the Kit Club. She was also a member of the Strokers Club. She enjoyed crafts and crocheting. Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Harden of Odessa; her son, Greg Cates of Phoenix, Ariz.; her brother, Mike Edwards of El Paso, Texas; and three grandchildren, Will, Kara and Chad Harden. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Leroy "Bo" Ford, 33 years of age, passed away on November 19, 1999, at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 29, 1966 in San Jose, California. Bo was a graduate of Odessa High School and married Kristi Pruitt on December 20, 1986. Until his illness, he was employed as a salesman for CDI Industries. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maxine Green of Odessa, his great aunt, Dolly Freeman and his great grandmother, Ola Powell. Surviving are his wife, Kristi Ford, daughters Kourtney Ford, Kayla Ford and Kami Ford, all of Odessa, his parents, Hubert Ford of Arkansas and Annietta Palmer of Odessa, sister Denise and her husband Gary of Midland, brother Thomas Ford of Arkansas, brother-in-law Tracy and his wife Kristina Pruitt, in-laws Carroll and Reata Pruitt, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 21, 1999, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. The funeral service is set for Monday, November 22, 1999, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Christian Church, located at 4522 Everglade, with Rev. Robert Scofield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Era was a former resident of Odessa. She is survived by her son, Billy Bob Hood of Alvin; sister, Fanny Hestant; sister-in-law, Maudie Martin; nieces, Catherine Berryhill, Marilyn Snyder, Glenda Coleman and Lee Don Martin; grandchildren, Robert Hand, Annetta Gaye Perry and Tracy Lynn Richardson; great-grandchildren, Lanae & Torie Perry, Donna & William Hood and Candice & Pace Richardson. Wilson Funeral Directors. _________________________________________________________________ Mrs. Janie Robertson Hunter was born to Johnny Robertson and Octavia Crystal July 11, 1911, in Kervin, Texas, the first of 11 children. The family moved to Wortham, Texas, where Janie attended school. She accepted Christ at an early age. As a young woman, she took courses in cooking and sewing and used these skills to earn a living as a domestic worker. She married Alonzo Hunter, who preceded her in death. After moving to Odessa, she worked for Mrs. Moss for 40 years. When Mrs. Moss moved to Fort Worth, Texas, Mrs. Hunter retired. She died at her home, 508 Washington Lane, on November 11, 1999. She is survived by one brother, James Robertson of Odessa; five sisters, Johnnie Shelton of Midland, Laura Carter of Los Angeles, Calif., and Princella Toney, Marie Moorer and Alta Mae Rand, all of Odessa; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. _________________________________________________________________ Frank Walker Kremer, born to Lon and Clara Kremer on Nov. 4, 1920, in Indianapolis, Ind. He attended Catholic and public schools in Indianapolis. He completed the Indianapolis Police School and graduated from Butler University with a B.S. degree in 1947. He later attended Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas, and the Texas D.P.S. Highway Patrol Training Academy at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas. He was a sales manager for CIT Corp. for five years in Dallas, Texas, and Kansas City, Mo., and attended their finance school in New York. He was with French Tool & Supply Co. in Odessa as credit manager for 18 years, and Broncho Chevrolet as leasing manager for 21 years. He retired in February 1999. He enjoyed hunting and was the coordinator for a hunting club for 25 years at the Roger Dudley Ranch in Sheffield, Texas. He is past president of the Odessa chapter of NACM (National Association of Credit Management) and has served as a loan executive for The United Way. He was a member of Odessa Country Club for over 16 years and a long-time member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a fighter pilot instructor after receiving his pilot wings at Moore Field, Mission, Texas in 1943, Class 43K. He was stationed at Waco Air Force Base and Randolph Air Field, San Antonio, Texas. He married Blanche Willis of Mexia, Texas, in 1945. She preceded him in death in 1994. He married Sue Alford of Odessa in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Sue Kremer of Odessa; daughter, Anne Shepard of Harlingen; sister, Esther Marshal of Monrovia, Ind.; and three grandsons, Michael Ashy of Houston, Kirk Ashy and his wife Kristan of Houston, and Brian Ashy of Houston. Services are scheduled for 12 noon Monday, November 22, 1999 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, with Father Michael Jasper of St. Barnabas officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to Nurses Hospice. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Viola Ruth Ratliff, 73, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was claimed by the Lord Jesus Christ and reunited with her beloved husband, Bill, on November 18, 1999. Bill preceded her in death on August 3, 1999. Viola was a resident of Odessa for most of her 73 years and a lifetime member of the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. Her kind and tender presence will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Her loving family invites all of her friends to attend funeral services scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, November 22, 1999, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel, with Roy Smalling and Don Turskey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. She leaves behind her loving family who loved her and will miss her more than words can say. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Durwood "Robby" Robertson, 81, of Odessa, passed away Friday, November 19, 1999, after a short illness. Robby was born July 14, 1918, in Madison, Neb., to James W. and Mildred Robertson. Robby graduated from the University of Chicago in 1940 and immediately began serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Airborne Operations. After completing his military service, Robby began his career in the wire rope business in Denver, Colorado. In 1964 he moved to Odessa and began a 30-year career at Rochester Rope and Wire Co. Following his retirement he met Marie Weylandt, and they were married in 1994 in Hawaii. They enjoyed traveling together and many family gatherings. Robby enjoyed many lasting friendships, as well as his new friends with whom he regularly played golf. He was a long time active member of the First United Methodist Church of Odessa. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Wilma, who died in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Marie; his four stepchildren and their families: Pam Logan of Dallas, her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Richard Stelling and her son Jackson Logan III; Judi and her husband Burton Rice of Nashville, Tenn., their son William, and daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth Rice-West and Dab West; Steve Weylandt of Houston, his wife Candace and their daughter, Taylor; and Robert Weylandt of Houston, his wife Elizabeth, their son, Michael and their daughter, Mary Ellen. Robby is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Dyllon Rice and Logan Stelling. Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 1999, in the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating.
