December 10, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Frank Wesley Burney, 87, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at his residence. Services will be at noon today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Woody officiating. He was born Dec. 18, 1911, in Weatherford. He married Beatrice Reeves in San Antonio. She preceded him in death Feb. 26, 1952. Mr. Burney moved to Odessa in 1998 from San Antonio. He worked as a police instructor at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio for 32 years, and also was well trained and always on standby to put to use his knowledge of riot control, chemical warfare and disaster relief. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Minnie Burney; brothers, Willie, Roy, Carl, Fred, Howard and Sam Burney; sisters, Ruth Russell and Trude Patillo; and a nephew, Bill Lay. Survivors include his sister, Fay Meek of Odessa; nephews, Bob Meek and Jimmy Meek; nieces, Judy Foreman, Ruth Moore, June Drew and Joy Rittamin. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Flora Lee "Cookie" Cook ODESSA -- Flora Lee "Cookie" Cook, 82, of McCamey, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Rankin County Hospital. She was born April 15, 1917, to Clarence and Mary Estelle Holcomb. She was married to Walter Cook who preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Ozona. Survivors include her daughter, Janet Clark of Houston; one sister-in-law, Bette Holcomb of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Dick Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Fredericktown, Mo. He married Dorothy Claire Germany Jan. 3, 1934, in Holt. Mr. Pruett has lived in Odessa since 1936. He was a self-employed contractor. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Pruett of Odessa; son, Floyd H. Pruett Jr. of Austin; daughters, Margaret Spiller of Ozona; sisters, Jewell Hammond of Odessa and Dorothy Fay Wright of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren, Mel Spiller and Laurie McKee; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to M.D. Anderson Hospital Research in Houston.
