December 16, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Mass for Benita Garcia Chacon, 68, of Odessa will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the directions of Martinez Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Public visitations will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Friday at Martinez Funeral Home. Mrs. Chacon died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Sept. 16, 1931, in Vado De Piedra, Mexico, to Tecla Carrasco and Luciano Garcia. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Alfonso Chacon Jr. Mrs. Chacon was a housewife and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include four daughters, Delma Alvarez, Gracie Sandate, Gloria Chavez, all of Odessa, Viola Chacon of Lubbock; two sons, Hector Chacon of Odessa and Xavier Chacon of Lubbock; three sisters, Eva Gonzales of Presidio, Delfina Macias and Guadalupe Molina, both of Odessa; seven brothers, Esequil Garcia, Adan Garcia, Alvaro Garcia, all of Odessa, Frederico Garcia of Vaselia, Calif., Luciano Garcia Jr. of Crane, Viviano Garcia of Presidio, and Manuel Garcia of New Mexico; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. "On Dec. 14, 1999, Heaven Regained An Angel. On September 16, 1931, God sent forth an angel Benita in Name. Even though God needed this Blessed Angel he sent her to be a mother, wife, grandmother. When Benita matured in age she was asked for her hand in marriage. This was the beginning of Alfonso Sr. and Benita's life in blessed bondage by God's Blessing. This Angel Benita bore seven siblings, four daughters and three sons, to be loving caring individuals. We the Chacon family, thank God for the gift of having such a beautiful caring mother, daughter and wife. Heaven has regained its angel. Thank you God for such a precious gift." Chacon Family _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Graveside services for Ruth Elaine Colbaugh, 75, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Grover and Betty Yocham officiating. Mrs. Colbaugh died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Guthrie, Okla. She married Jimmy A. Colbaugh on June 2, 1947, in El Paso. He died on July 1, 1982. She was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Lee Colbaugh. Mrs. Colbaugh came to Odessa in 1955 from Pecos. She had worked in school cafeterias for the Ector County School District and Odessa College. She was a member of Hiway Temple Assembly of God Church. She was an active member of Eastern Star since 1982. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Allen Colbaugh of Odessa; a brother, Jerry Van Houtan of Odessa; nieces, Cheryl Heath, Cindy Estoll and Tina Van Houtan. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Richard Ronald Hoefs BALMORHEA -- Richard Ronald Hoefs passed away on Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at an Odessa Hospital. "Dick" was born Oct. 7, 1928, to Rudolph and Bertha Hoefs. He was the youngest of five sons. Dick attended Peacock Military Academy and Trinity University in San Antonio. It was there he met and married Helene Scrivener in 1949, with whom he had five children. Dick was engaged in ranching and farming for many years and also owned and operated a feed yard in Toyahvale. During this time he also was very involved in local and civic activities. He was a Balmorhea city councilman, president of the Lions club, president of the school board and Republican Party district chairman. He served on the Pecos hospital board, and was on the Boy Scout council. He was very instrumental in helping establish the medical clinic in Balmorhea and served on that board as president. He was a member of the cattlemen's association and the Toyahvale roping association. He is survived by one brother, Alan Hoefs and his wife, Mildred, of Pecos; three sons, Mark Hoefs of Austin, Graham Hoefs and wife, Michelle, of Spring, Ferd Hoefs and wife, Cindy, of San Angelo; two daughters, Kathy Armstrong and husband, Andy, of Midland, Julianne Martin and husband, Bill, of Houston. He had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Methodist Church in Balmorhea at 11 a.m. today under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Abbott officiating. Pallbearers will be John Moore, James Dyer, Jim Ed Miller, Don Wienacht, Bob Hyter and Freddy Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Helen Humphries, Jean Duncan, Tom Clark and Fred Strode. Dick was an avid reader. He had read hundreds of books during his lifetime. Therefore, the family requests any memorials be sent to the Balmorhea Library, P.O. Box 251, Balmorhea, Texas, 79718, or to one's favorite charity. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Services for Marcus Jacob Rosenberger II, 7 1/2-month-old son of Marcus and Amy Rosenberger of Midland, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Jacob died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born April 18, 1999, in Odessa. Jacob was a special little boy. Survivors include his parents, Marcus and Amy Rosenberger of Midland; sister, Madison Rosenberger of Midland; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Kathy Henderson of Midland; paternal grandparents, Doug and Sherry Rosenberger of Odessa; paternal grandmother, Vickie Moyer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; paternal great-grandparents, Jack and Nancy Little of Claremont, Calif.; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Lou Rosenberger of Tiffin, Ohio; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Ramsey of Tyler; maternal great-grandfather, J.B. Moon of Odessa; uncle and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clabaugh of San Antonio, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Clabaugh of Perrysburg, Ohio, Harley Melton, Lori Melton and Gary Rudloff, all of Midland, Derek and Stephanie Scholz of Odessa; and numerous other relatives. _________________________________________________________________ Leoma Hobbs Matthews ODESSA -- Leoma H. Matthews of 810 Drury Lane in Odessa, was born December 17, 1911, in Mineral Wells, to William Shelby Shrum and Martha Elizabeth Shrum. She passed away Dec. 13, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness. Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Rose Hill Cemetery with her grandson Charles Key officiating. Mrs. Matthews was a homemaker. Survivors include her daughters, Catherine Key of Oklahoma City, Martha Jones of Houston, Floedelle Rainey and Greta Watson, both of Odessa; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
