December 24, 1999 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Hortencia H. Sanchez, 56, passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at her residence. She was born Aug. 17, 1943, in Alpine. She was employed with the Ector County Independent School District as a cafeteria manager. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Mrs. Sanchez is survived by her husband, Frank Sanchez of Odessa; sons, Robert Sanchez, Lorenzo Sanchez and his wife Marissa, all of Odessa, and Raymond Sanchez of Dallas; daughter, Cecilia Alvarado of Odessa; brothers, Lalo Hernandez of El Paso, Manuel Hernandez of Fort Stockton and David Hernandez of Andrews; sisters, Josephina Valenzuela of Alpine, Julia Ramirez and Ida Carrasco, both of Midland, and Cecilia Hernandez of Kenya, Africa; grandchildren, Kristina Alvarado, Tara Alvarado and Jack McDonald. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. _________________________________________________________________ Norma Ballenger ODESSA -- Norma Ballenger, 75, of Odessa, left this world to join her beloved husband Dec. 23, 1999, after a short illness. Her granddaughter, Sabra Young, also preceded her in death. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at the Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Don Fankhauser officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Frances and Ben Schulze of Odessa and Sue and J.R. Black of Lovington, N.M.; sister, Ella B. Kerbow of Tyler; five granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA -- Herbert Wright, 82, of Odessa, died Dec. 23, 1999, at his residence. He was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Cleburne. He married Maxine Elliott Sherman, Jan. 5, 1991, in Midland. Mr. Wright moved to Odessa from Las Cruces, N.M., June 1, 1981. He was a graduate of Texas A&M in Kingsville with a bachelor of business administration. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pecos for more than 50 years and the Lions Club in Pecos. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War ll. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Wright of Odessa; son, Jonathan Craig Wright of Las Cruces, N.M.; step-daughters, Sandra Schmitz of Gardendale and Sally Gist of Odessa; sisters, Martha Helen Merrett of Groesbeck and Jean May of Rio Verde, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Terri and Allen. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in the Chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Rev. Dr. David Mindel officiating.
