January 14, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries MONAHANS — Services for Mary Emily Beckham, 79, of Monahans are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Third & Dwight Church of Christ with Greg Holly officiating. Interment will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery under the directions of Harkey Funeral Home. Mrs. Beckham died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born April 23, 1920, in Berwyn, Okla. She married Harold Beckham on March 20, 1939, in Ardmore, Okla. He died on Nov. 22, 1967. Mrs. Beckham had lived in Monahans since 1958 and was a member of the Democratic Party. She was a member of Church of Christ. Survivors include sons, Tommy Beckham and wife, Colleen, and Ricky Beckham, all of Monahans, and Larry Beckham and wife, Janet, of Kermit; daughters, Carol Campbell and husband, Don, and Patricia Beckham, all of Monahans, and Lou Perry of Midland; a brother, Tommy Howard of Gene Autry, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Mike, Shelly, Jeff, Jennifer, Billy, Ann, Tim and Brian; and four great-grandchildren, Angela, Lindsay, Micah and Victor. Pallbearers will be Monte Mayhall, Jack Ledingham, Lonnie Campbell, Mike Campbell, Jeff Perry and Brian Beckham. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Services for Farron J. Clay, 45, of Odessa are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Clay died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born July 15, 1954, in Pauls Valley, Okla. He married Larynell Heard on July 3, 1976, in Odessa. Mr. Clay moved to Odessa in 1955 from Oklahoma. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He graduated from Odessa High School and attended Odessa College. He was an avid gun collector. He liked to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his mother, Winona Clay. Survivors include his wife, Larynell Clay of Odessa; two sons, Harley J. Clay and Zachary Evan Clay, both of Odessa; his father, Ray Clay of Odessa; a brother, Ferrall Clay of Odessa; his constant companion Maria, his Chihuahua dog; and many nephews and one niece. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Elder Eugene Culvahouse, 64, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Pioneer, Texas. He married Nancy Walton, Aug. 6, 1957, in Pampa. Mr. Culvahouse worked for many years in the grocery business, for more than 20 years at Spruill’s Grocery in Kermit and also in Ballinger before moving to Odessa in 1970. He also worked for a short time in the oilfields of West Texas. While working on a drilling rig, he was seriously injured and was forced to retire at an early age. He was a Christian man who exemplified God’s gift of service, he provided well for his family and continuously gave others his time and help. He and his loving wife, who was always at his side, spent endless hours caring and helping others regardless of the cost to them. Mr. Culvahouse was a master craftsman whose regard to detail and perfection is exhibited in all of his work. The work he did with his hands was a true expression of self and his love for those he served. His greatest pleasures in life were visiting with his family and sharing a Coke or cup of coffee with a friend. He was a true believer in right and wrong and honesty, and his word was "good as gold." Because of the way he loved each and everyone of us, we miss him. He was preceded in death by his son, James F. Culvahouse; father, James S. Culvahouse; and a sister, Dorothy Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Steve Munsell; granddaughters, Stephanie and Kari Munsell; and mother, Eula Culvahouse, all of Odessa. He also is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne Culvahouse and El Wanda of Midland; Bill Culvahouse and Alice of Brownfield; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly St. Germain and J.J. of Alamogordo, N.M., Mary Lawson and Don of Odessa, Florence Norwood and Sherman of Odessa, Lucile Granbery and Leonard of DeKalb; and best buddy, Frank Briggs of Odessa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today, Jan. 14, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Wilson Funeral Directors. www.wilsonfuneral.com _________________________________________________________________ Eldon Lee Pounds, 76, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2000, in a local hospital. Mr. Pounds was born June 20, 1923, in Oklahoma City, Okla. He moved to Texas in 1939 and to Odessa in 1951. He served in the U.S. Marine Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant and a sharpshooter during World War II and received several ribbons and numerous Gold Stars. He was co-owner of Airline Valve and Machine Works Inc. and served as vice president and general manager until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and sang in the Sanctuary Choir and the Glory Choir. He was a life member of the Houston Masonic Lodge #1189, Scottish Rite and Ransford Chapter 135, Order of the Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edna Pounds; and his wife, Eileen Ethel Pounds; his parents, Otis and Maggie Pounds; and a brother, Everett Pounds. He is survived by two sons, Ron L. Pounds of Katy and Jim R. LeMay Sr, of San Antonio; one daughter, June Roventini of Houston; a sister, Ethel H. Thomas and her husband, John, of Houston; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Jan. 14, 2000, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Troy officiating, Masonic graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Forrest Park Cemetery in Houston with the Rev. Eddie Alley officiat- ing. His grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. All services are under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Mr. Pounds’ requested that all who read this obituary would "put Christ first in their life and follow His will."
