January 17, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries Harvey Holcomb ODESSA — Harvey Holcomb, 72, of Odessa died Saturday, January 15, 2000, at his residence. He was born May 30, 1927, in Tahlequah, Okla. He moved to the Permian Basin and was employed by Atlantic Richfield Company after his return from the Korean War in 1951. He chose to take early retirement from ARCO in the first "downsizing" of the oil patch in 1985. He was electrical and automation foreman, south Permian District, at the time. He was a veteran of two wars and life member of the American Legion and VFW. He was one-half Choctaw Indian and one hundred percent American, and very proud of both. He expressed his love of country by volunteer work in the fields of Americanism, National Security, children and youth, and community service; all programs of the American Legion. His wife Helen shared his commitment to God and country by working similar programs of the American Legion Auxiliary. He held many local, state, and national offices in the American Legion, including State Commander and National Vice Commander. He was currently serving as a member of the National Convention Commission, and as president of the Texas Convention Corporation. He is survived by wife, Helen; daughter, Renee’ Brown and husband Gary of Odessa; sons, Wayne and wife Sheila of Arlington, Hugh of Odessa, and Scott of New Braunfels; sister, Vivian Chunn; brother, Wesley both of Conroe; and brother, Raymond of Oak Harbor, Wash. He is also survived by two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2000 in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. James R. Otterness officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Following the services a reception will be held for family and friends in the big hall at the American Legion Post, East 8th and Pueblo. Box 789, Austin, Texas 78767. www.wilsonfuneral.com _________________________________________________________________ Darrell Rhodes Darrell Rhodes was born June 15, 1956, in Pampa, Texas, to Jack and Georgia (Gilbert) Rhodes. He was reared and educated in Snyder and Monahans, Texas. Darrell was a self-employed independent catastrophe insurance adjuster and traveled from coast-to-coast as required. He was a member of the National Association of Catastrophe Adjusters (NACA) and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). He married Penny Romell in Fort Worth, Texas on September 9, 1999. Mr. Rhodes died at their home Thursday, January 13, 2000. Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife, Penny; his parents, Jack and Georgia Rhodes; his brother, Richard Rhodes; his sister, Kathy Barnes; his nieces and nephews, Christi, Laura, Taylor, and Jarrod Barnes; Allison and Jon Rhodes; Ashley, Jacob, Aaron, Dylan, Chase, and Krystin Romell; Ben, Laura Kathryn, Luke, and Sam Lancaster; Tyler and Tanna Anderson; and a lifetime’s accumulation of friends. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2000, in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor E. H. "Sonny" Conaster officiating. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Monday in Monahans Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers are David Garderet, Joe D.
