January 19, 2000 Permian Basin Obituaries ODESSA — George William Caswell, 85, of Odessa died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Eddie Parrish officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was born April 9, 1914, in Norton. He married Etha Bryan in 1935, in Colorado City. Mr. Caswell moved to Odessa in 1946 from Colorado City. He served in the 96th Infantry during World War II. He worked as a ditching machine operator in Pipeline Construction. He was a member of Eisenhower Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Etha Caswell of Odessa; brother, Leonard Ray Caswell of May; and sisters, Mary Williams of California and Savana Yarbrough of Nolan. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Thelma O. Franklin, 87, of Odessa died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Seabury Nursing Center after a short illness. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Westover Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Wright and Emmett Barnard officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Eastland County. She married Cecil Gordon Franklin Nov. 5, 1929, in Eastland County. Mrs. Franklin has lived in Odessa since 1950. She was a retired sales clerk and Avon representative. She was a member of Westover Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Gordon Franklin on April 18, 1975; and her daughter, Helen Marie Walsh on April 18, 1980. Survivors include her daughter, Vickie Thurman and her husband Ellis of Odessa; sister, Dorothy Mae Hise of Ranger; six grandchildren, James Michael Walsh and Trish Carrell, both of Austin, Shawn Forrest Thurman and his fiance Julie Leighton and Shanna and Bobby Geers, all of Odessa; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Walsh, Bradley Allen, Bailey Geers, Samantha Geers, Kyle and Kyrstin Polk, all of Odessa; one great-great-grandchild, Estevan Gonzalez of Odessa. The family suggests memorials to Westover Baptist Church Building Fund. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ ODESSA — Don Steele, 57, of Odessa died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was born April 23, 1942, in Huntington, W.Va. He married Oletta Bynum Dec. 10, 1970, in Ardmore, Okla. Mr. Steele moved to Odessa in 1972 from Houston. He was general manager for Pump Jack Masters, formerly ATCO. He was a member of the Roadrunners of West Texas and the National Street Rod Association. He was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father, Ezra Steele in 1990. Survivors include his wife, Oletta Steele of Odessa; son, Joe Michael Sanford and wife Teresa of Odessa; daughters, Ivy Steele of Odessa and Donna Steele of San Antonio; mother, Golda Steele of Rosharon; sister, Judy McCloud and husband Randy of Rosharon; five grandchildren, Oleta Sutzko, Tommy Sanford, Matt Sanford, JonMikal Mosher and Sierra Sanford. The family suggests memorials to the Special Olympics.
